Is a DCT xdrive possible?
Me and a group of friends have a few ideas for a N54 swap and where wondering if a dual clutch could work on the xdrive system? I know people have converted ATand 6MT but they have been on RWD cars.

Would love for there to be an plug and play option for this, but because the xdrive uses its own specific transmission and there isnt a DCT awd option anywhere in the world, there isnt.
Anything is possible with money, but not without lots of custom work

Audi and some others have DCT AWD so there's that, but correct, for BMW there's no easy way to make a DCT xDrive mechanically (interfaces, bearing situation, etc) but also would be not that easy to make it work from a mechatronic (electronic, software) point of view with the controllers.
Btw, how does xDrive use it's own specific transmission? Afaik it's just the tailhousing that's different between RWD and AWD AT6 and MT6 variants. |
