Question Tailpipe soot

So I've tried using Tar & Bug remove and some other cleaners but I can't seem to remove all the black soot. Anyone got a product recommendation for getting rid of this stuff easily?

TIA

A friend of mine who's a detailer gave me a bottle of this "polish". He just said it was a polisher, and it works perfectly.

I have been able to wipe clean mine pretty easily. If you have trouble spots, some metal polish should do the trick.

Over an hour?! Takes me 10 seconds...for both tailpipes. Buy yourself some Eagle One Wadding Polish.

you should whipe a wet cloth or some windex and a cloth everytime you wash your car, the 'soot' will never stick and bake on your pipes this way.

I don't have any trouble cleaning the soot out of the tail pipes. I use the same stuff I use to clean the brake dust off my wheels. I have a brush I use to clean the wheels, and I just use the same spray stuff and the brush on the tailpipes. Just a little rinse and you're done. It cleans very easy.

sorry to thread jack, but DAMN.. what is that crap that continually covers my wheels even after a good cleaning? brake dust? will this eventually go away? i have to clean my wheels daily just to keep that thin dark film off, i'm afraid of it sticking and causing me some serious labor later on

i thought it was my tire shine that i was applying, but i put it on my scion and i dont seem to have the same issue

Quickest method: Pump in some 100 octane, head to the nearest track (road course) and tear around for 30 minutes. Your CATS will heat up to the point of blowing out those carbon deposits.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. Some good ideas to try out. I spent a good 5+ hours washing, cleaning, claying, paint sealing and waxing my car today and she looks amazing. Only thing that's still dirty are the tailpipes. Can't wait to try a few of the products/ideas mentioned to clean them off.

BTW, did you all notice E90Fleet is back?! See post #7

Yep.

Not if you keep the OEM brake pads.

Yeah, pretty much. If you let that stuff sit on the wheels, it'll eventually eat into the material covering the wheels.

BMW soft brake pads... great for stopping. Not so good for the wheels. For this reason, I find the thought of a BMW with chrome wheels to be a nightmare.
