I've questioned his selection of Z5 vs. Z2Pro. Not meant to be adversarial in the least as he is the one in person doing the work and knows best what LSP might be best but my experience with both Z5 and Z2 would probably result in me using Z2Pro especially on a marr free brand new car.

Was it just me, or did the little captions he wrote make it seem like he was semi-new at this whole detailing thing?

Seemed like a good job to me, but what do I know? I'm curious what you would have done differently?

He's not. He's been on Autopia as long as I can remember, and has some pretty impressive details under his belt. I think he just likes to document the process instead of just showing pictures and listing all the crap he used on the car. If you have time, check this one out, where he wetsands the entire car. http://www.autopia.org/forum/pro-det...polishing.html

Well, you're in the detailing section so I am going to assume you understand there are a lot of us that are concerned with achieving as close to a perfect finish as possible on our cars... that car just sat on a boat for over 8,000 miles, then it was on a train for 1,400 miles, then it sat in a rail yard for 2 months. Check out his claybar after one pass on the hood... Should I go on?

The paint was 99% perfect post wash and clay. It was a good job. Not a super, fantastic detail. If this was a new car prep on a Corolla, no one would care. The car is the main focus in this case, not the detail.

Oh I see. So you're not faulting the detail, just that it wasn't a very involved one and the only reason someone posted it here was that it's a GT-R. Got it.

I am so happy you pointed this out.

Look guys, just because its a "brand new" car, doesn't mean it looks how it really should. I prepped my 335i, and like Picus said, after a few passes of the clay on the horizontal panels, the clay bar was nearly trashed! So many contaminents on the paint from the time it leaves the factory until it reaches stateside. (Rail dust, surface rust, fallout, etc... )

well in that case, he should have done a respray. hell, the car was probably totalled by that point; should have just bought a new one.

If you don't like people being anal about their cars you're in the wrong forum section.
