2011 335xi with 335is Clutch // Single or Dual Mass Flywheel??
So recently I've been preparing for doing my first clutch service, but before push comes to shove I decided to take the safe route and get a new flywheel, and now the question comes as I have come to a crossroads. Should I get a single mass flywheel versus the stock dual mass? Has anyone run the single mass on a stock-like setup before? I'm currently running a stock clutch but am upgrading to the is 550 clutch, and am also doing a few minor upgrades with the brass pivot pin and shift linkage rebuild kit, but besides that my car is pretty stock Any input is appreciated.

I was just talking to Anthony from ECS tuning, and from what he told me the single mass flywheel will not fit my vehicle unless I buy a clutch kit specifically designed for SMF's, can anybody confirm or deny this?

SPEC used to make SMFWs (both steel and aluminum) that worked with stock clutch pressure plates and discs. Not sure if they still do but likely.
EDIT: they still do; SPEC SB53S-4 is part number for the steel 6 bolt SMFW |

MFactory has one for the stock self adjusting clutch setup as well:
http://www.teammfactory.com/catalog/.../MF-TRS-09E92A I didn't pull the trigger, but in my research, the rattle is only in neutral and the clutch engaged (ie foot off the pedal). Most SMFW setups I've seen have a spring hub clutch disk which likely helps with the rattle. Last edited by cahme; 08-28-2019 at 08:34 PM.. |
