Damn Brake Squeal...

I am victim to the imfamous 0-20mph squeal coming from the rear brakes. I talked to my SA and he told me to bring the car in and a tech would drive around with me to reproduce the noise. I recently got switched to graveyards at work and havent had the chance to bring it in. After reading the long thread here on the subject along with a video, I cut and pasted all that stuff onto an attachment and emailed it to my SA.

He emailed me back and said that no test drive was needed and to just bring the car in and they would take care of the problem. Cool. I guess when I cut and pasted all the complaints from all the fellow owners here it made him think twice. Just a heads up.. if your SA has an email and you can find the problem here on the forums it wouldnt hurt to cut and paste and blow up your SA's mailbox!

Let me know whats causing it, my car squeels too. But only speeds of 10mph and under in traffic. So embarrasing.

My 07 335i coupe,6mt,sport pk has 6500 miles on it and i have never got as much as a minor or quick squeal from my brakes even when backing up when they were hot.Total silence from my brakes so far. (literally not a peep).

You guys need to bed in your brakes!

Find an open road and do 60-5 mph stops 6-8 times in a row, and then take your car on the freeway to cool them off.

When you do this, you will be aplying a layer of pad on the rotor and form fit your pads perfectly to the rotor.
When you do this you will get a powerful smell but this is normal, you might even see some smoke coming from the brakes.

When you're doing the 60-5 stops, never come to a complete stop; don't get caught in traffic, and make sure you're safe!!

can you explain how this helps when the issue happens when letting your foot off of the brake after braking? The issue doesn't happen under 0-20mph braking, but 0-20 mph acceleration after braking.

If you are barely on the brakes then that means that the brake piston is barely pushing against the pad, and if there is any inconsistencies with the pad and the rotor (aka not bedded in properly) then the brake pad starts to vibrate against the piston.
This is the noise that you are hearing.
So many people think that the squeaking comes from the pad against the rotor but 99% of the time, it is coming from the pad vibrating against the brake piston.

I know quite a bit about brakes. I just changed out my rear brakes with my 4 piston racing calipers in my 335.
I'm trying to slowly brake them in before I bed them in. Right now, I'm hearing a strong squeal sound just before I come to a complete stop and the sound will go away once i bed in the brakes. It's happened before.

i get that same damn squeal, and its always from the rear passenger side wheel. i'm thinking that it might be that plastic pad wear sensor (according to the zeckenhausen website, that wheel and the front driver side both have a sensor).

took it to the dealer once already, they chamfered the pads and did something w/ the rotor, and the noise came back in 2 days...
