I'm sure I'm not the only one with this problem, but it's getting out of hand here. I'm brand new to doing anything more to my car other than running it through the car wash -- but it's starting to get obsessive now.

I just gave my car a nice wash this past Sunday, and by Monday (after a day in our work uncovered parking lot), it had a covering of pollen/dust/whatever. It's like this *everytime*.

So I tried using some waterless wash (One), and between that and my constant use of quick detailer, I've introduced terrible swirl marks to my jet black car that I really only noticed the severity of yesterday. After seeing those and some other smudges, I barely felt comfortable driving the car around... and considered taking today off to give the car a good detail.

Just venting, I guess, but does anybody have any ideas for how to combat the dusting of pollen and crap that falls on my car without being "that guy" in the parking lot with the car cover?

Tried that, seemed to work for a while, then noticed that it left all sorts of streaks on the car (even after storing it in newspaper to wick off the excess wax).

ONE is a great product, but in my eyes it still falls into the bucket of "quick detailers." If my car ever gets dust/pollen or any other contaminates I just wash it to ensure I am not grinding contaminates into my paint. So in conclusion keep ONE for a QD spray after you wash the car and the paint is still clean.

As far as dusters go, I have never liked them. Over repeat usage you are going to see swirls and scratches. I only use a duster to get polish dust and wax dust off parts of the car. My duster has never seen dirt or a dirty car. So in conclusion stay away from dusters as well.

The only offense to keeping a car clean is a good defense. Try to wash you car at least once a week. Keep in mind you do not always have to do a complete wash, for sometimes I just focus on the paint and do not touch the wheels to cut back on time. Also after every wash follow it with a good wipe down with a Anti-Static QD like CG Speed Wipe, FK425, or my fav Optimum Instant Detailer & Gloss Enhancer. Keeping a fresh coat of wax/sealant will also help so try and apply one at least once every two months. I wax/seal at the least every month. I would also look into buying a foam cannon. I find that with black cars it help a lot with the washing process therefore limiting the amount of swirls induced by washing.

Keep in mind black cars are the hardest cars to keep new. Take a look at my clients car that only had 8,000 miles on it when I started paint correction on it.

This is with good washing tech's. It is near impossible to keep black cars new unless you spend big bucks on good detailers to keep it clean and keep it as swirl free as possible.

Your car is Jet Black and you are just going to have to deal with it just as Scheerspeed said. My previous car of nearly 5 years was a Jet Black and even though it always looked perfect, it takes many man hours to do so. There is detailing, and then there is detailing Jet Black car's.

*sigh* thanks guys... I guess I'll just have to come to terms with it. It was just shocking to see a bunch of swirls where I thought I had barely any. Most people probably wouldn't notice anyway...

What is the technique or steps you have used thus far to wash your car?
Have you ever taken it to a car wash? Do you always wash it yourself?

Always wash it myself -- except for when it came in and the dealer got to it first . Nobody touches my car but me (so I have no one else to blame, I guess).

Every week, 'standard' two bucket method here, 2x microfiber mits, mf ww blot to dry, cg cwg 1x/mo, cg maxisuds 3x mo, jetseal109, 50/50. Went over it once with a udm for very light swirls, which cleared up with menz106ff after green clay, under some halogens. (The car's only 5mos old.) In between washes, been using cg speedwipe and recently, some ONE. Tried the california duster (only on a lightly dusted car, never dirty) for a while, but saw streaking (after wicking it), and wasn't convinced it wasn't inroducing swirls/scratches (where the heck does all of that dust go anyway), so I stopped.

I think this time around, I'll go with SIP/white then 106ff/white to try to clear up the swirls, but it's that daily dusting of pollen/other crap that's driving me crazy. It's like it's a magnet. Oh how I miss the days of my steel grey e46...
