New sequential LES side markers not working.
Hi all,
I just received some sequential LED side markers and plugged them in with the car off and key on and they worked great. When I went to drive the car, they just stopped working. They only work when the car is off and the low beams are on. With the car off and low beams off, they do not flash their full cycle. With the car on, they don’t flash at all. They have the standard plug with an extra red wire. When I touch the red wire to power, they just light up bright white. I’m guessing the red wire has nothing to do with the sequential flash? It would be cool to have it figured out by this weekend. Thank you.

Do I need to add resistors to them?

Hmm I'm not sure. What does the item description or seller say on this? Plug and play?
My Aliexpress cheapo ones were plug in play. Although I didn't buy sequential they just flash like factory . |

Thanks for the reply.
Yes it said plug and play. I was going to order them from Aliexpress but found them on amazon with Prime shipping so ordered them from there. Here’s what it says. •Built-in CAN-bus controller, complete no onboard computer error. •Direct replacement, plug and play with no modification needed •Plug into the stock side marker light socket w/ additional optional red wire to enable the xenon white LED side marker light feature (simply connect this red wire to ACC 12V+ or tap to the original angel eye ring marker bulb's positive wire) The optional red wire is if you want the side marker to flash white instead of sequential Amber I think. I ordered some resistors. Any other ideas? |

It’s the side marker with a thin chrome strip running though the middle of it and there’s only 1 other vendor on amazon who has the style. The other vendors side marker isn’t a sequential flash though, just stock flash.
I’ll try the resistor and if it doesn’t work then return it and try the other vendor. If his doesn’t work either then just get plain sequential. Thanks for the reply. I’ll be back tomorrow with info if the resistor worked or not. |

The sequential flash relies upon an internal timing circuit.
Normally the side marker merely goes on and off, so once voltage is applied the circuit has to power the leds one at a time. In turn that circuit relies upon the usual marker blink rate of about one off-on cycle per second. If your car is pulsing the markers at a faster rate the sequential LEDs will not work. One of my non-BMW vehicles had the issue because of a fast blink rate which is normally used to indicate burned out bulbs. |

When they pulse properly with the car off, they seem to flash on-off about as fast as the stock bulbs in the headlights.
Anyway I can adjust this? Just tried the resistor and they still don’t work. What a jip! I see what you’re saying about them only getting voltage for a quick second. The front of the leds start to light up then turn off then start back up at the front. A shame if I can’t get them to work Weird part is they work fine if the car is off and the xenon headlights are on. Last edited by Serf27; 09-07-2019 at 06:40 AM.. |

No, I don’t know why they work fine with car off but don’t work with the car on.
I ordered the same style but just normal flashing from a different seller. I would have got Jeff’s but the ones I got are a different style than his.
