Carista scanner, P0171

I know this has been discussed plenty of times but i had a question for people using the Carista OBD Scanner. My SES light came on and the scanner only pulls the code P0171 "System too lean bank 1". I know this could be a few things from vacuum leak to bad o2 sensor. My question is, does the Carista app not get more specific? If i purchased a scanner like the one below, would that scanner be more specific as to what the problem is? Thanks!

You're better off purchasing MHD and logging. That code is typically a bad 02 sensor, you could confirm it in 5 seconds with the logging/monitoring pack.

Thanks for the info. I searched mhd log but I’m having a hard time understanding it. Can you confirm this:

I have to download the mhd app
Is there a certain cable I need to use or can I use a elm Bluetooth obd scanner for this?

Thanks for the help.

I cleaned the Vanos solenoids, changed the oil, checked for vacuum leaks, and checked the oil filter cap today with no luck.

Youll need the appropriate cable and adapter to connect MHD with the vehicle.

With the tool you have already, is it able to access various engine sensors? Easiest way to ID a bad 02 sensor is to look at the AFR reading at idle, if its bad it will usually be putting out readings that are all over the place.

I appreciate all the help. I actually got a app to work with my carista and run live diagnostics.

The AFR was not bouncing everywhere and stayed around low 14.xx majority of the time. Could you recommend anything else to look for? Thanks!

Something I noticed is that my long term fuel trim for bank 1 was around 29% and bank 2 around 25%.
