No BMWs were on The Golden Ray

Whose BMW went down with boat (The Golden Ray)?

And will the vessel delay additional ships with BMWs on the East Coast?

Car had just loaded vehicles for shipment to Baltimore.

The Golden Ray, which the Coast Guard said was transporting cars, is flagged out of the Marshall Islands and was headed to Baltimore, according to the website vesselfinder.com. The ship's registered owner is a South Korean company.

The Port of Brunswick is currently closed to vessel traffic, with an established emergency safety zone in St. Simons Sound. Vessels are not authorized within a half mile of the Golden Ray.

The port is one of the busiest U.S. seaports for shipping automobiles. Nearly 614,000 vehicles and heavy machinery units moved across its docks in the 2019 fiscal year that ended June 30, according to the Georgia Ports Authority.

I haven’t seen anything about what cars were on this ship. Only that 420 cars were damaged and presumed totaled.

BMW uses this port as shown in Google Maps.

Don't need Google Maps to tell me that, since I've seen the place in person more than once.

I thought so too, but apparently export production goes out of Charleston.

Mercedes also has a big facility there, and it is the #2 port on the east coast for vehicle shipments. Also Porsche and Kia, and I'm pretty sure that I saw a bunch of Nissans when I drove past there last December.

For those concerned about the 4 missing South Korean crew, the local news down there is reporting that the Coast Guard heard one or more banging on the ship from inside, in response to their bangs from outside. They will try today to get them out, as soon as they are sure that the ship is stable.

FWIW, vesselfinder.com says that this ship's last ports were Veracruz and Altamira (east coast of Mexico), Freeport, Jacksonville, and Brunswick where it apparently already unloaded. It was heading to Baltimore when it capsized leaving the river. I doubt that there were any BMW's on board.....

Answer to my question is apparently no ones BMW.

Spoke with BMW at the port.

BMW only imports vehicles at Brunswick. BMW does not export from Brunswick.

To the best of their knowledge, there were no BMWs on the Golden Ray.

The Golden Ray was carrying over 4,000 cars manufactured in the US, and was headed to the Middle East for export. Some of them were Kia Motors cars, but most were from other global carmakers.

All 4 trapped crewmen have also been rescued.

My heart sank because my new bimmer is on a ship heading here, but this is the wrong coast. Still, glad to hear 3 of the missing crew are safe. Hopefully they get the 4th out.
