Lets talk about Comfort Access
Ok,
So a lot of people on here talk about how CA is their favorite option or how they are kicking themselves for not getting it. I just ordered a 330xi with premium, sport, cw, and sirius. What people never explain is why they can't live without CA. Please explain what is soooooooooo great. It seems like a conveience/lazy/cool factor to me. |

I can share one experience during which I wish I had CA. I went to Costco for my contacts this past Tuesday; it was sunny when I got there and was raining like crazy when I got out. I was gonna go apply for a job afterward so I didnt wanna get wet. So I took this box to cover my head and shoulders. lol I was holding some stuff in my hands AND had to search for my key. Freaking got the stuff and myself wet a little. I was standing next to the car searching for the key in the pouring rain. I really really really really really wish I had CA. You just dont know how convenient it is until you're in that situation where u wish you had it.

It's really nice to be able to run up to your car in the rain and just open your door, especially when you're carrying stuff. Also, i've found that i can't close all of the windows/sunroof from the remote, but with comfort access i can just hold my finger on the ridges for a few more seconds and everything will close. Plus, when combined with a bluetooth phone, you never have to take anything out of your pockets, which is a lot more of a hassle than you think until you don't have to do it anymore.

You will hate it. It's a waste of money. God gives you keys; use them. Is that what you wanted to hear?

The only bad thing about CA is that it has raised my expectations too much - now I want every door handle that I grab to unlock automatically, especially my own front door!

CA is great! CA is great! CA is great!
The best part about it is that yu don't have to use the key at all. You leave it in your pocket, touch the inner door handle and the door opens. Get in the car, press the clutch and the Start/Stop button (brake if it is an automatic) and drive off. Press the start/stop button when you are getting out to shut the car off. Close the door, touch teh ridges on the top of the door handle to lock the doors. Never have to use the key at all!

it's too late. To a point changes can be made... not sure if scheduled for production is the cut off or not.. The only option is to re-order if your dealer wants to let the car you ordered come through. Last edited by inTgr8r; 04-03-2006 at 11:09 AM.. |

I regret not getting it sooooo bad. I regret it most because every week or two I can't post in threads like this how cool it is and how convenient it is.
Every week or two I feel obligated to take the time to reply in these threads about how inferior I feel because a forgot to order CA. It really makes me want to kick myself in the butt every week or two when I read all of the great testimonies about the the convenience of CA. I guess I'll just have to try and enjoy the rest of my BMW, without the CA. For God's sake, please spend the extra $500 so you don't have to feel like me, and get reminded on a weekly basis how great it is. I regret not getting it sooooo bad. I didn't get CA myself because it wasn't avalaible back then but I think I could live without it. I don't mind pressing the unlock button and putting the key on the fob when I start the car.

You can live without it but then you can live without a lot of the things cars these days come with.
It's great for convenience. Now the wife can open the trunk and load all her shopping bags without me having to lift a finger! Great eh?!

This is how often I use CA. Everyday. I use to carry all sorts of stuff on my keychain, cutesy stuff, beer bottle opener, swiss army knife, until I got CA. I nixed everything but the key and one keychain so I can hear it in my purse. Like everyone said, I never have to dig in that dungeon of a purse. It's always there. I never lose the key, misplace the key, etc. For instance, your car is running, and you need to run into the bank/7-eleven... you can get out of the car (engine still running) lock your car (engine still running) and go do your 2 minute errand, come back to your car, unlock, get in (engine still running) and drive off. Rather than turn off the engine, and restart for a mere 2 minute errand (besides, isn't it bad to start your engine all the time like that)? Especially, you do all that while it's raining, it's so quik, you wish you had it. When you go grocery shopping, and you've got bags, you don't need to fumble for the key. An added bonus would be the cool feature when your friends watch you, and they're facial expression is !!

I don't think it's something I can't live without though... neither is my BMW or any other luxury items, for that matter. As far as convenience/lazy/cool/unnecessary/waste of money features goes, one could make an argument for nearly anything to fall into that category (e.g. ZPP, ZSP, auto tranny, CA, PDC, NAV, sat radio, and certainly the door sills, ). It all depends on what people's priorities are. -hkj |
