Smile 400miles to a tank.

Yesterday I put 400 miles on my car on a single tank of gas. The majority of it was cruising on the Autobhan at about 120km/h / 75mph with several short WOT runs when merging onto the various Autobahns I traveled. Im sure without flooring it like I did several times I could get even further. Also I could have driven the car down to the very end but I decided to follow the owners manual this time and not drive to the last drop of gas in the tank. The fuel efficiency of the 335 continues to amaze me and further proves that the EPA ratings are lower than they should be.

I find that hard to believe.

I drive somewhat conservative and do maybe one or two WOT a day.

the most I ever got from 1 tank was 270.

PATHETIC!

I struggle to get 300. Usually in the 275 range.

Haha, I hardly consider only flooring it twice a day conservative! You should watch the documentary on hyper mile'ers and see what conservative really is, those guys work for every drop of gas.

400mi / 16gal = 25mpg. EPA stats for the 335i are 17/26.

The question seems to be: how much do you lose going over 55/60mph and WOT blasts?

I tend to drive 50/50 city highway in my 335xi 6MT and do about 2-3 good WOT blasts to 80mph (getting on hwy) per day and my mileage hovers around 21mpg.

My car gets a little over 300mpg per tank which comes in right around what the car computer is reporting.

The mpg computer number drops pretty fast on WOT blasts in my car so I would agree that if we could drive around at 55-60 mph and keep our foot out of it, the 335 should be able to post up around 30mpg highway which is a bit above the EPA numbers.

Ya that's ultra conservative but my point is, is that I dont drive like a race car driver everyday and I get lousy mileage.

I'm averaging 19.4 and almost always get between 250 - 270 miles a tank.

i average around 370 miles on a tank, with mostly highway miles and some city driving. I can easily get 400 miles to the tank if there were no traffic, but being the NJ/NY area, thats very hard to find

Actually it is possible to get 400+. The 335 is most fuel efficient at 75-80mph. If you drive the entire tank on the highway at that speed it comes to around 26-27 mpg. But if you do most of your driving in mixed conditions (which is what 99.9% of what we do) you'll get between 20-21 mpg (the more urban driving, the lower the mpg) and that comes out to 300-320 miles per tank.

avg mph: 77

the car is crazy efficient on the 5 fwy.

If I used all 16 gallons then that would be correct but my needle was on the 18th tickmark out of 20 so 18/20 = .9 or 9/10 of a tank used, times that by 16gallons and you get 14.4 gallons used. 400miles/14.4 gallons = 27.777...MPG

400 miles to the tank on the highway sounds about right. I frequently make the 100 mile trip from Tampa to Orlando, and 100 miles back with half a tank left

Left PA yesterday and drove to NC (West Jefferson). 448 miles, averaged 29 mpg, with the AC on the whole trip. You guys getting 275-300 must really be WOT a good bit, I was even in a traffic back-up for 35 min., and the last 100 miles of my trip was mountains and turns, and nasty back roads.

Today @ 4:00 we are headed to Bristol,TN for race, then back to NC tonight and family reunion tomorrow, and then back to Bristol tomorrow night, then home on Sunday.

I average 25MPG, do about 25% of my miles on the highway, 75% on local/county roads which are much more fun that interstates.. I average 25 (gotta change my sig, I actually had a 30MPG day on a trip to and from work, but I can't pussyfoot like that all the time) 25MPG is where I seem to have settled, and I am happy with that. usually one WOT blast through 3 gears per way into and out of work.

On a recent 100% freeway drive, I averaged 79mph and 32.5mpg. That's with a tune and pretty steady driving.

In contrast, check out how bad my fuel economy is. I drive in heavy stop n go traffic in Los Angeles, 3 miles to work and 3 miles back home daily. My average speed is something like 6 mph!!! Anyway, I get around 13-14 mpg with conservative driving. If I really try to hypermill, I can get 15-16mpg but that mean that I'm driving slower than my grandma would. On the highway, I can get as high as others have posted above, but traffic is so bad that I literally am stopped more than I am actually driving. I could probably get to work faster on a bicycle.

19.3 mpg after 15,000 miles. Don't floor it around town, but 60% city driving in hilly Atlanta will get you....I was about 21 mpg when I lived in Florida...
