Clutch failure out of nowhere
hello!
I recently got a 2008 335i and bought everything i saw necessary to maintenance it, so oil change kit, gear oil for mt, coolant, and plugs. I noticed that the first drive after i changed all of this stuff my clutch was slipping REALLY bad, like WOT in 6th and it will slip all the way to redline. This one is really confusing me as i dont see how anything i did has anything to do with the clutch. Before i did all this maintenance the clutch would grab super hard, i was told its some stage 2 clutch and its very heavy and rattles at idle. Any ideas? Thanks!! |

Maybe the plugs were bad enough that the DME was pulling timing out, and reducing power? Now with the new plugs....the motor is making more power and slipping the clutch.
Sometimes they just fail. Either way....if it's slipping on you, it's slipping. No real way to fix it besides putting in a new clutch. |

Recently replaced my engine, definitely should have noticed it at the time but I sorta neglected to check/thought it was fine based on clutch feel prior to the engine failure. But my clutch was SHIT after the engine swap. I never once suspected the clutch was slipping prior to the engine swap but afterwards it was terrible. Spec Stage 2+ clutch as well and at stock power levels.
Ended up having to drop the transmission and swapping the clutch out on jack stands (fun stuff!) but when I got a look at the friction disc it was like 98% worn. I do like the guys idea above me, you may have been missing out on some power and now you just put it over the top. |

6th gear is a lot of load and torque. A clutch on the way out would easily start slipping 6th gear WOT. It's just coincidence that it started to slip, nothing to do with something you did more than likely.
The most popular clutch is the Spec Stage 2+ for your power level, highly recommend. |
