Jb3 Dyno Results (v81)!

Hey guys I just back from the dyno. Well first off, the dyno operator was a little confused on how to dyno my car because it was AT. Then i show him the diy and he finally got it right after 4 runs. So on the 5th run is where he finally got it which we pull 353whp and then he stop and did it again and we got a lower numer (348whp). So i told him to wait a little and let the car cool down and then we did it again and i pull the numbers above. Considering the weather here down in South Florida I was pretty impressed. I watch my boost gauge the whole time and it went to 11 psi and then gone up to 15psi and went back down to 11ish psi and drop. Out of the 7 runs I did it never spike passed the 15psi mark. Remember I am v81 so that's why my tq isnt really high and my only other mods was bms dual intakes and AA bov on 93 octane.

They all seem to have a little blip there... (stock and tuned, but its easier to see on a tuned car) I remember hearing an explination once... I think maybe its a vanos adjustment?

Your 135 exhaust is more restrictive than 335. In that regard those are excellent figures for AT.

+1... GREAT numbers for a 135, its cool to see customers getting as good or better numbers than terry had on his development car

Well part of that is due to the fact Terry's car was bone stock on 91 Octane.

These guys are on 93 Octane with intakes.
That's why they are seeing 6-8 rwhp more.
Quite honestly that extra 5-8 rwhp is more likely from the extra octane than the intakes.
From my dyno experience on 91 vs 93 Octane, the 2 extra octane points are worth about 5+ rwhp

BTW, as to your first post in this thread, he peaked at 354 rwhp, not 358.

Either way, again, seems like this supports what I've said for awhile now (after I dynoed on V2) that on an otherwise stock car on 91 Octane you'll see a peak of around 345 or so rwhp
Add 5-8 rwhp for 93 Octane
Add another 5+ for MT

What's interesting is Greek got 355 rwhp with a manual too.
Usually they do 5+ more than autos. But each car and conditions can vary the results by as much as 10 rwhp anyway, so it's in that range.

That big dip in the OP's curve is a bit concerning.
Usually, it's a very small dip followed by a small bump (as the VANOS seems to kick in) but in the OP's it's a large dip!

What is the difference in exhaust worth, 335 v. 135? 5-10? I thought I remembered seeing that guess somewhere....

Appears to be common to the v81. Terry's charts have the same dip, as
do others I've seen. Like these

They probably moved the vanos curve around a bit. You can see it on stock runs as well, its just amplified a bit with a tune.

if you got 10 335's and 10 135's together with the same mods, stock exhaust, it would probably average around that. But differences from car to car make it harder to see in just 1 or 2 samples.

Ahh thanks Kyle.

And thanks Rick. Yeah, it may be the whole v81 /29.2+ tuning that makes the dip larger, so it won't trip the code. Other than that, and a slightly lower torque output, the "Doomsday" maps seem on par with the regular ones in hp output.

As for the exhaust restriction of the 135i vs 335i
I think it's pretty minimal. Within 5 rwhp for sure.
I was surprised, because stock (and with just tunes) 135 and 335's seem to be dynoing about the same
I'm sure it's more of a restriction as power increases however, and probably little to no restriction difference at stock levels, where either exhaust flows more than good enough for the stock level.
