Puzzled. Misfires after Protool 'DME reset adaptations'
Hi
I have an '08 335i which as an MHD stage1+ tune and the XHP stage 2. After a bunch of work (below), the acceleration was a bit on the lumpy side, so read that resetting adaptations can help. I have the BimmerGeeks Protool and ran the DME reset adaptations. There then followed a whole bunch of errors on startup including: CF33 - No message, receiver EGS, transmitter DME-DDE 2CFB - Throttle valve adaptation value 2D09 - THROTTLE and the graphic of the car up on a ramp. I reset the ignition, cleared the errors and restarted and the car did start and the CF33, 2CFB and 2D09 went away, but there were misfires. Ran the car and it seemed better. Anyway ever since then I've been getting cold start misfires which go when the carm is warm. Started on cylinder 3, but the last two days it's been cylinders 1 and 3. I swapped the coils and plugs between cylinders 3 and 2 to see if it was those and the misfires did not move. Last night I changed the injector on cylinder 3, but this morning I've got the same errors. I only see fuel residue on plug 5, so dont think it's leaking injectors (I will be changing 5). So current errors: 2DED: Power management, closed-circuit violation (had this for some time) 29CD: Combustion misfires, cylinder 1 29CF: Combustion misfires, cylinder 3 29CC: Combusiont misfires, several cylinders A6CF: AUC sensor (I haven't put the shelf back in in front of the fire wall while I'm trying to get it working) Yesterday I also got: 28B4: DME, Internal fault RAM checksum. I cleared this and it didn't come back today. I also tried re-flashing the tune with MHD to see if the Protools had corrupted it in some way. Drives different but still misfiring on cold start. 2 minutes into the drive the mis-fire goes, so cant think it's the DME itself. What I had previously done: I changed all the plugs and coils a few months ago. I was getting some misfires on warm startup, so changed all injectors for reconditioned index 12s (couldn't afford new). I did a valve clean at home with brake cleaner about a month ago. I changed the rocker cover about 4 months back. I changed one of the Vanos vales that was failing. Any insight gratefully received. Thanks. |

Hi, I know this has been a while but did you figure out the problem? My guess is the reconditioned injectors, where did you get them? but I’m curious if the vanos you changed was OE as I’ve heard non-OE are common fail or sub-optimal. Also, did you clean the vanos screens?
