I got a slot on the 13th for the Auto X, wish I signed up sooner for the M Control Clinic. I live less than a mile away, might just hang around some of the days and soak in the action too lol.

pretty wack... the course I ran was 15-16 seconds long, other tracks were 25-30 seconds according to my friend who ran a different course. all using M340i in that blue color there was an m850 you can use on the street along with a z4 the parking lot had cooler cars haha

I went yesterday
I thought it was a lot of fun although it was freezing out there. I have no experience auto-crossing so my laps were crap but after taking the M340 around a few times, I definitely want to take my own cars out.
I liked the M340 and felt it was a great car. That said, I felt that either the track was too small for the car or the car was too big for the track. That said, I wouldn't mind the new 3 Series (I could be getting old). After the autocross, I was able to street drive a few cars: a 4 Series GC (Meh), 750i (This car was awesome), 850i (The sound it makes is amazing) and the Z4 (Pretty nice). I think it is awesome that BMW puts this on for people and if anyone from BMW reads these forums, thank you for this. I will say that once I was done and walked back to my car (E90 335i), I was not sad to get into my car. The new one is great and I didn't feel let down by the way it drove and felt. But I was still happier to get into mine and drive off - the ride, the sound and the feel is great. Just curious to hear other peoples impression of the new 3 Series. |

I did the autocross earlier this year at Giant's Stadium / MetLife in New Jersey. Like you I had the most fun driving the 7 series on the road test.
As for the M340i new car has a lot of new tech and was relatively fun to drive. It's much faster and handles way better than my old e91 (there's no comparison there). I was not a fan of how the engine noise is "piped in" - it felt like a movie sound effect. Tech with big screens everywhere also isn't a big plus for me. On the track we didn't get to try out different ride modes, so I think it was in the "sport mode" the entire time. I'd have to try it out on terrible American roads and highways to see how it really feels. That said, I like my old car with its naturally aspirated engine that's easy to maintain. I probably would not buy an M340i for $60k or even $50k. |
