GM Employee Discount tempting?

So a friend of mine decided to take advantage of the GM employee discount pricing, and was able to get a loaded 2008 vette for about 10k off MSRP, bringing the price down to around $47k. Now I know that the 335 is a real nice car (one I can't afford anyways), but if I had 47k to spend, wouldn't that make the vette a really tempting purchase over a 335? I know that they are two different cars, but does the corvette really offer a lot more performance for the same amount of money?
To put in perspective, a base vette can be had for 42k, and that is 2k more than I paid for my 328 coupe!

I think the BMW really shines in terms of refinement coupled with luxury. The Vette is just an entirely different class of car. That said, I would love to have a Vette!!! It's just the practicality of seating for only two is a deal breaker.

If its going to be a daily driver, 335 all the way. If its a weekend/nice days car, it would be a much harder choice for me.

GM employee discount promotion would be a tremendous deal. The problem is that you have to buy a GM car.

GM employee discounts completely wreck resale values. And, like BK said, you have to buy a GM. I can't wait to get into a Saab.

I don't know if you've been paying attention, but a lot of GM cars are badge engineered imports (Saab, Holden, some Korean car manufacturer, even Toyota).

You folks who have reservations with American cars have obviously never driven a vette, at least not a newer one. They are excellent and high quality cars and incredibly fun to drive. If you think your 335 puts a smile on your face, I'll guarantee you the a drive in a new vette will make it twice as wide...

I was inches away from buying one and could have had the same discount, but living in the north east I would have had to buy a winter car and I just don't have the dough to do that right now.

Which GM owns those brands except Toyota.

The point is that the cars are not manufactured domestically.

Hmmmm...wonder what employee pricing on a 2009 ZR1 would be...

Or even a 2008 Z06 for that matter.

Doesn't the Corvette have leaf springs ? Even in my emerging country the only vehicles with leaf springs are horse carriages

And did you try to gently press on the back panel of a Corvette ? Its just a thin film of plastic.

Also, pushrod engine...come on, what century are we living in ?

Im surprised they let the Vette go at employee price. They usually exclude their good cars in these kinds of deals.

As in what most suvs and trucks have. The Vette suspension is fantastic.

The vette has one of the highest resale values of all cars. I recently saw a list where it was in the top 5 best resale value cars.

No thanks to the "off a cliff" style depreciation curve on new American vehicles...GM just reduced the value of their used vehicles on the market as well as new ones.

Good "deal" on new car - and the used GM fleet will be virtually free...good old American discounting - what better way to build demand than to cut your own corporate throat by selling price rather than value...

If you want to drag race and own a stripper's dream car, go for the Vette.

He didn't say it was a Z06. That would be a pretty crazy deal for one of those.
