Please help...question on aftermarket car alarms?
Hello everyone! I'm new here and just wanted to say hello. I enjoy this site very much...it give alot of helpful tips.
Okay... my questions is that I just bought a new 2006 BMW 325i and i'm planning of getting a aftermarket alarm. I thinking of getting a Viper Pager Alarm...I called all the shop here in Hawaii and no one had installed an alarm in a 2006 BMW car yet. I wanted to know if I should have the car alarm shop just install it (i'm asking because everything is so computerized in the bimmer and don't want to run into any problems that only the car dealership can fix)? I know that it's hard to steal a BMW...just wanted an alarm because of the sensor so I can be alerted if anyone messes with my bimmer. Please help! Also any recommendations is very helpful...thanks! |

If the shop expresses low confidence, don't let them do it.
Installing the alarm isn't a simple thing as they dissect quite a bit of your car in installing the Viper - putting in a valet switch, sometimes taking off the steering column, etc. Save yourself the worries and just get a standard alarm. Sometimes the pager works against you when you find out your alarm was only triggerred by a rice rocket with a poor muffler.

I would highly advice against getting an aftermarket alarm. Although their benefits seem worthwhile on paper, in reality they will be a bigger pain than its worth. You have insurance for a reason. Save the extra grand or so that you would spend on having the viper installed and opt to have a lower deductible. Factory alarm should be fine for all intensive purposes...

If I find install too costly and difficult to install; I'll follow JSPIRA's advice: No Alarm!

Neither aftermarket alarm will work for the E9X--Im confident the autoshops will find this out as well once they try the install. I will track this topic, however, as I would be *extremely* happy if you guys got this to work. The only reason I would get an alarm is for the passive locking feature that the OEM alarm does not offer.
