Electrical failure and christmas tree lights all over the dash 😔 Help!!

Hi guys,

Do after the engine rebuild I took the car for a few long runs.

The car is a 2007 335i 4 door. N54 6speed auto.

It managed over 1000km with out any issues. Then 200km away from home it came up with an electrical failure message and all the warning lights came up and the rev counter and speedo started bouncing at random?

The car has now driven more than 300km since them and boosts well and seems to drive well but I have these errors and the mechanic is puzzled?

I installed the bmw Pro tool on my phone and with the d can cable I've got a list of errors.

Does anyone know what I need to do?

Does your interior lights and also your nighttime headlights work. Is the car drivable still with all the warnings? I had a friend have something like this happen to his car when his Footwell Module fried from jumping his car.

Hi mate,

The interior lights work as they should. they turn on when you click the key fob and turn off when you lock the doors. THey don't come on randomly. Everything works as it should I think. front lights work haven't checked the rears or brake lights.

You press the start button and the car springs to life with no issue. Engine sounds good, gear changes work in both normal and sports mode, the paddle shifters work. It boosts well on downshifts and kick down. A/C works (but I think maybe intermittently. as it felt hot the other day)

I also had to put a big bottle of water in the water resovoir the other day? so 2 liters of water. Do these N54s drink water? I thought that was odd.

Is this the same mechanic who had the timing completely fucked? I'd find a new mechanic.

Have you checked your battery?

My Aircon is acting a little weird and I load tested the batter this evening and it clearly is not holding a charge very well. I suspect the modules are load shedding.

Starts quick, Runs well, no issues at all. The AC is just doing a full reset at the first traffic light after a cold start. Every time , like clockwork.

I'll ll drop in a new battery during the holidays and see if it clears up.

Naa, using the same mechanic. Actually it was the engine builder that messed up the timing. My mechanic was the one telling me the timing was wrong. But he didnt want to touch the engine has he didnt build it and the engine builder didnt want to accept he was wrong. When he finally came to check he realised it weas 180 degrees out. re timed it and it fired straight up.

The mechanic had other cars on the ramp last might that couldnt move so they havent checked the water pump yet

Check the voltage output of the alternator voltage regulator while the car is running to makes sure the voltage is not too high.

Take it to a shop and have it load tested. Most Auto parts stores will do it for free.

Hi guys,

After alot of trial and error messing around I am still confused as to why i keep getting central electronics failure? I have ruled out the Alternator and battery sensor.

My mechanic is sure it is the water pump, but I am not getting a 2E81 or 2E82 error code? Do you think its the water pump thats causing the electical failure and christmas tree dash light?

The Codes I am getting is a 2E7c - BSD data bus communications fault ? this is what my mechanic is suggesting as the water pump failure. THe pump is a little noisy but if you open the expansion tank it seems to be flowing well. Ive not had another N54 before so i dont know if its excessively noisy or not?

Next code i have is 2FA3 - after searching it seems this is a common error that comes up after an MSD flash and can be ignored - AM I CORRECT, or SHOULD I BE WORRIED?

The next code is - CDA8 - Message (status, instrument panel, 0x1B4) faulty, receiver DME, transmitter KOMBI. - Im guessing this is to do with the christmas tree lights littering my dash board - After some searching i found this can be due to a faulty or water damaged PDC module. I have since disconnected the PDC module and the error is still there. I also saw on another thread that it could be the ABS sensors/wheel speed sensors. - how can i test these sensors? can i simply disconnect them to see if the fault goes away?

Also, another poster said he had christmas tree lights due to rust on the abs nobles on the driveshaft. Can i just blast these with an air compressor or do i need to take the shafts out and wire brush them?

Also, if i continue to drive the car with all these lights flashing up will be do any lasting damage to the DME or something else? the car boosts well but as its a fresh build i dont have a reference point.

Let me know your thoughts please.

Thanks,

Chris

UPDATE: Ok, I bought a new water pump and had it installed and its still giving me the error code 2E7C? What should i check now?

With regards to the other errors, the CDA8 code has gone, but the mechanic replaced the dash cluster with one from a 320i as there are very few 335i's in Thailand. The error has gone, but is this just because we are not using the correct cluster?

What do you think?

Check fuses related to the water pump, specifically 40AMP. Other then that I think anyone is guessing.
