Misfire leads to Mixed Fuel Injectors!
Let me tell you what lead to this....
I was having a misfire on #6, I already had all new plugs and Coil packs that I was going to replace everything with anyways,so I wasn't too worried. Well,I'm still getting a misfire on #6,so I'm suspecting a bad injector. I looked at them to see what index they were and they are mixed Cylinders #1 and #6 have a index 7 and Cylinders 2-5 have a index 8 So now,do I get a couple index 8 injectors to get them all the same or should I just get another index 7 since I think that I can use another index 7? I have a buddy who has #9 that he's going to sell me if I needed them. I'm planning on trading in the car for a newer one,so If I don't have to drop a lot of money on index 11 or 12,then that would be great. Give me your opinions on what I should do.Thanks |

Ok,good. As mentioned,if I don't have to drop a lot of money for index 12,then that's good,since I'm trading in the car.
I was thinking of just replacing that index 7 that's bad with an index 8 since it's the same bank. I can code. it no problem. |

Did you check spark plugs before you swapped them to see if the injector is in fact leaking? Reason I ask is I had a cylinder 6 misfire and it was only the decoupler that was messed up. Might be worth it to check before buying new injectors. I attached a picture of what my decoupler looked like when it was causing the misfire.

I'm assuming you are coding them in when you swap injectors around? As far as mixing injectors....I know BMW says you "can't run an index 12 with older injectors".....but I have a brand new index 12 in with two other index 7's in the same bank....and it runs great.

Hey guys, just wanted to give an update. It was a bad injector on cylinder 6. I installed an index 8 to replace the index 7,coded it and car runs like a champ now.

I have a misfire in cylinder 6 and I have replaced the coils and sparc plugs so I am down to injectors. I bought some index 12s and just replaced cylinder 6 and coded it in and my idle is still really rough and still says cylinder 6 misfire. Is this because the other injectors in the bank are not index 11 or higher? I also tested the injector and it is leaking could this be because of the mismatching injectors also?

Mixing index 12 with other injectors won't cause those problems. Lots of people here have mixed them without issue (me included, I have 1-1-1-9-12-12.) What injector is leaking? An injector won't leak because it's mixed with an older one on the same bank. If it's leaking it is bad and should be replaced. |

Yea the injector was bad I got it replaced with an index 12. Should I go ahead and replace the other 2 in the bank to index 12 or should I be fine the car is running with no issues now and it is mixed with an index 9 and 4
