E93 6MT 328i Space Grey story
Hello all,
ZHPmafia regular over here in Kentucky just bought a nice car! Glad to be back in the saddle after a small stent into boredom (2015 Audi A6 quatro 2L T). I also have a 2005 325i ZSP with ~120k that I am babying (son drives it). That was the car that "turned me on". e93 is space grey, 55K miles when I got it last week, and a bit of a rare bird it turns out. Thanks to Fredo @ZHPmafia for his investigation, this is what he found out about production stats on this very E93: Between 2007-2010, 322 BMW 328i Convertible (WL13) - painted in Space Grey Metallic (A52) with Black Dakota Leather (LCSW) interior were built for the US market. 33 were manual (2 are M Sport), 289 automatic (6 are M Sport). So I have 1 of the 2 that were built with manual transmission in that color combo! That's like what? worth 10 HP right? The most rare option in this car is option S710A - M leather steering wheel. It was installed on 21 out of 17,781 cars. I have that very wheel! Anyway I start this thread to introduce myself, and find out about my car! Oli Last edited by OLI77; 01-17-2020 at 06:27 PM.. |

Congratulations on the purchase of your car! You'll find a lot of useful information about your e93 and general e9x topics that can be applied to your vert. The build details of your vert are way cool. I can appreciate the details and rarity! Of 3597 335is cars made, mine is 1 of 14 built in my color combo + DCT. Show off your old girl! Let's see some pics!

Thanks Minéral Weiss Is. I would love to show the car. This is only my second post and i guess this forum does not use Tapatalk, so I have to upload pics to a host and get links? Can't upload to the forum directly?

Did a lot of cleaning, polishing, treating rubber bits... Deep cleaning wheels too, as well as tail pipe.

At 55,400 miles:
Changed cabin air filter (broke a tab, it's cold out tonight). Changed engine air filter and cleaned MAF. Fixed a tab on the air duct around the hood latch. Moved the 2 door strikers in, about 1.5-2 mm on each side, as the doors when not perfectly aligned with the back quarter panels and sticking out a bit. Working on a leak at the a pillar meeting the roof panel passenger side with butyl tape. Might have to take the liner out on the front most roof panel to investigate if leak continues. Got Carmax to agree with me that the car has a whine. They are changing the alternator and the power steering pump for free next week. Would love a new belt and a belt tensioner while they are in there. If whining continues.... Bit of info: used the OBC to read code 7 and at operating temperature, car is reading 95 oC. Close to the e46 values. |

Still at 55K miles, Carmax replaced the alternator and power steering pump and the whine is gone! I can now hear engine below 2500 rpm! My mpg are taking a dip.
Told Carmax that there was a coolant leak around the driver side front, near radiator. So they replaced the radiator while they were in there because there was apparently a crack. Figured that is a bit premature. I changed the first radiator on my E46 at 110K miles. I have a feeling that tightening the the car doors may have actually "fixed" the water leak at the A pillar. Time will tell, and a good rain. Very impressed with Carmax so far. Incredible warranty in the early days of ownership and they take care of their customers. Got 3 rides straight to work, and a pickup between 3-4 PM. Driving around.... |

Got a bit turned off by the orange on the car so I address this Ghetto style.
Cheap, easy mod. Getting an idler pulley from URO. Took the belt off this weekend and the idler pulley is really free running and making noise I think. Still hear a bit of a whine after Carmax changed my alternator and power steering pump. Turns out (I think) t'was the idler pulley. . . We'll see. |

Your car looks great, especially after the detail work!
I have an E46 coupe in a similar color (silbergrau). Ever miss your ZHP? Hope you get the wine sorted out.

Ah, well I still have my other BMW. It is the ZSP, so sport suspension, lowered, bolstered seats, 3 spoke steering but alas, only 2.5 L (325 i). Yes! I was missing it forever after buying that boring Audi A6! I gave it to my son who lives in town. So I still get to torque and fix things on it a little.
I did fix that pesky whine tonight! Changed my idler pulley at 55,550 miles (URO ~$20 shipped). Took 15 minutes. Torqued new bolt at 36 lbs/inch cause I thought 30 lbs was a bit light. The old pulley was toast and kept spinning freely. Carmax had changed the alternator and the power steering pump and had completely spaced on the idler pulley (lucky me, they changed the expensive items). All I hear now is engine! finally! |

Carmax didn't want to get into the A pillar leak and decided to let the local BMW dealership handle it. Car is still under the 90 day full warranty from Carmax. We'll see....

BMW dealership did the job on Friday. They changed the seal that is on the windshield, at top and both sides. Parts and labor (~450) together was ~700 paid by Carmax.
According to them, this is the fix and it no longer leaks. I washed the car today. No water on the seat but ain't nothing like a good 30 minute downpour, so we'll see. |

The steering wheel is the normal M-Sport wheel that came with the M-Sport package. Strange it's listed as a stand-alone option.

I am totally excited for you, Oli! I know the feeling and can relate....
I just got an '09 E93 with the perfect options for me (monaco blue, MT, black interior, low miles, etc.) I'm waiting until I detail it a bit more and fix some minor issues before I start showing it off here. But man is it sweet to have. I have a 2010 X3 that's nice too.. but this is more like it.. my kind of car. Top down driving is good therapy for me. |

By the way, it rained a good 4-5 hours today, from drizzle to "good and wet" and. . . ain't gonna lie, some water got in the car. Not as much as before but the cloth I left on the seat was nice and damp. It got a bit worse over the next few minutes driving around, maybe 10 big drops in all. It is less than before but is it acceptable? Calling dealership in the morning. |

Can't tell you where to look for that kind of info, there must be a registry somewhere on the production sheets for those years.
Funny that you looked a that same car. Took me one week to decide. It had the packages I wanted, color was a plus, although I would have not cared about in, or outside color. Today, I cleaned the cluster. Some dust behind the screen was bugging me a lot since buying it. Removed negative terminal, opened door and realized dooh, the windoooooeeewww right as I was pulling on the door (knew I couldn't close it again until I was done with the job). Took cluster inside and cleaned its' insides. Received a nice subtle cosmetic part from Taiwan today. Last edited by OLI77; 03-01-2020 at 01:10 PM.. |
