Idrive Update Issues
I've tried multiple times to update my Idrive. I have a 2011 335Is and when I go to the BMW website and check with my VIN it says I need update UPD01008.bin. so I download it and click on it and Adobe says it cannot open the file because it does not recognize the .BIN file extension. I tried to put the downloaded file rite on to a flash drive and see if my car recognizes it, both the glove box and arm rest USB's, after being in the "software update mode and nothing. I doesn't see the drive. Super frustrated, please help..

Don't click on the file.
Instead right click and select download file or save target instead. This file does not actually update idrive firmware. It only updates the Combox Bluetooth tables and has not been updated in a long time. |

First, make sure you have a combox. Not all 2011 have it. You can stream music correct?
Make sure your USB drive is formatted FAT32, copy the update file UPD01008.bin to the root of the USB drive (not in a folder). Plug the USB drive into the arm rest USB. From your i-Drive menu browse to Settings > Software update > Update software. Wait up to a few minutes for the prompt to update the system software to show up, follow onscreen directions. |

How do I know if my car has a Com box? Where would it be located? Yes, I can stream music..Yes the drive is formatted Fat32. Not sure what you mean "To the root of the USB".. Tried right clicking and there was no option for "save target as". "Just save link as", tried that and adobe keeps popping up saying it can open the file.

Root is the first level you see when you open a drive. Put the UPD01008.bin on a blank USB with no folders or other files. Try a different USB drive and format it with Windows. Sometimes an 8 GB or smaller works better than a 256 gb one. |

You are getting that message because you have your Windows file associations set wrong.
However that is not the issue. As long as the file is saved and has the original name it will work to update the Combox. First check to make sure that you have a Combox. |

Ok guys, after trying the USB drive once again in the armrest USB port , it recognized it and updated it. I can't tell you how many times I've done this and nothing. Thanks to everyone who took the time to help!
