Just picked out up new BMW today...Any advice

Just picked up our first BMW from Paul Miller BMW. A 2017 BMW 3X 28i. It's our first BMW after driving Subaru's for all these years. Still getting use to the car but so far so good.

Two quick questions. Any bumper guard recommendations and looking for an honest shop to take the car to for service. We're in NYC but am willing to travel to for the right shop.

Also, if anybody has any advice, things they would like to share I'm all ears. There's a lot to take in with the baby.

Can you clarify which type of bumper guard product? Being that it's a crossover, I thought maybe you're referring to a brush guard.

Interested in protecting the front and back bumper when I parallel park the car or someone parallel parks their car in front or behind mine.

Truthfully, look into a brush guard/ bar for the front, thatll protect you. Four the rear, if yyou get a hitch and put a step on the hitch, that will dissuade anyone from tapping you from the rear. I leave my hitch ball on full time, and noone dares come near me in NYC. My girlfriend lives in queens so I'm in the city often.

In reality, you're better off just having the front and rear fixed after a while. It's about $700 to have a good shop paint and blend and put on a brand new bumper- I'd just take what the city gives you, and fix it when it bugs you enough. I can't wait to leave the area....

The brush guard is probably an effective deterrent, but your car's overall length will probably go up by at least 8 inches if you outfit the front and back, and there is also the probability that if you get in a collision at some speed, you'll damage whatever the bar mounts to on top of whatever's behind the bars.

I personally haven't ever seen anything I'd spend my own money on, but the best middle ground may be to get rubber bumper protectors that offer some kind of anti-theft feature and something soft between the rubber and the paint.

Totally agree. My rear ball definitely adds 4-6" of length, and I really have to be careful because I'll punch right through a radiator if I'm not careful.

At the end of the day, I think the front bumper license plate gadgets are a great idea. Only 2", and it's usually a rubber or plastic thing so if you tap, you're not leaving damage, and if you get tapped, you're good. In the rear, I suppose those rubber bumper covers are ok, but I'm never convinced that they won't absolutely trash the paint below them. Plus, all of these better options make the car look like total trash in my opinion. My hitch ball gets let on because I tow a few times a month, and don't park in a garage, so it's just inconvenient to constantly be taking off. Out front..... well... I drive a 247k mile X5. It's not perfect. Bought it with scuffs on teh corners, and I'll admit to adding one to the mix. Doesn't look bad, because luckily the E70 has some sort of plastic/poly front quarter panels and they're just super hardy.
