Performance winter or Ice and Snow tires
I'm in Peoria, IL with a 335i and wondering what would be recommended as far as tires for the winter. I'm planning on getting 17" rims and 205/50-17 tires to replace my stock 19" for the winter and wondering if around here a full Ice and snow tire would be recommended or a Performance winter tire would be fine. I don't plan on traveling much in the winter, but being able to get around would be nice.
I grew up in western New York, and went to school in Northern New York,so driving in snow isn't something new for me. I'm just not sure what to expect around here for winters and what type of tires I should go with. Thanks. |

Here is the setup I went with with more details.
I went with a 17" wheel and tire set. The wheels are ASA JH3 and the tires are non-runflat Dunlop Winter Sport M3 XL. http://e93fanatic.blogspot.com/2007/...-not-high.html This setup worked great for me here in Detroit.

I am coming back from Boston this November, and I used Blizzaks for the past three years here - never a problem with traction. I had a Jetta as my previous ride (actually, my wife's car), and have been using dedicated winter wheels and tires with dedicated summer wheels and tires for 8 months (March-November).
Since I have 18" Blizzaks on the stock 162s, I have a set of CSLs for summer. You just have to find a place for storage, but it reduced wear and tear on the tires. |
