BMW PE Question

Looking to sell my performance exhaust and i am need to trade someone for their stock exhaust. Someone asked me, do you have the full catback exhaust or just the mufflers. The exhaust was installed by the previous owner, along with the performance package from BMW. How would I find out if it is the full exhaust or not?

Thank you!

If it's PE from factory you won't have any exhaust band clamps on the exhaust, it would be complete, one piece.

I'm not sure you could have ordered a PE exhaust straight from the factory.

Oh yeah you're probably right, I think it was F30 you could order options like M performance items from factory.

I have seen images and videos from
335i with exhaust without flapper valve and without clamps either. Not sure if it was n54 or n55. Also have seen performace exhaust with clamps and also with flapper. Some have PE plate welded. Some don't. Are they different versions of the PE exhaust?

The only version I have seen is one that is clamped and does not have the flapper valve. That's how you know it's a PE muffler.

I personally think the 335IS mufflers are the exact same as the PE mufflers except that they have a flapper valve & black tips. I don't know that for 100% certain. I have never seen the internals of the PE muffler. I have seen internals of the 335IS muffler & compared it to the stock muffler. Night & Day really.

It doesn't make sense, from a production standpoint, to have 3 separate versions of mufflers with essentially the same shell. Two yes. I mean all they have up do is not add the flapper valve & put on SS tips at the factory. Simple.

I just checked. No flapper for NA market only. EU market has flapper. Also, you are correct, IS mufflers are the same, so some PE came with out claps from factory.

Have you seen the inside of a PE muffler and been able to compare it to the inside an IS muffler?

No, I have not. Not a lot of people willing to cut open neither.
