Arrow How to find which tuning platform my car has?

Hi Guys,

Just recently purchased an 08 N54 335i mSport (which had been advertised as having a custom map). Does anyone know a way I can find out which tuning platform my car has? It feels pretty quick and has overrun (pops and bangs) mapped in to it, so I'm pretty sure the seller wasn’t lying.

Doesn't really make a difference but I would be interested to know!

Many Thanks!

Well if it feels quick, its definitely tuned because they are slow stock. lol

MHD and read codes, itll pull up what the dme is currently flashed with.

Thanks for the quick replies! If this has been flashed directly to the DME am I right in thinking im screwed if I ever wanted to change the map? Reason why I'm asking is the idiot that owned it before me used the wrong spark plugs (i believe from an N43/N53, NGK 91785 three prong style) and Im worried that they remapped it based on them plugs....

Ive now replaced them with 97506s

Factory N54 plugs have are 3 prong Bosch.

I ran them without issue down to an 11.6, clean logs. 93, E85, whatever. I don't like aftermarket plugs that require such a small gap and short service life.

Flashed to DME is what I would assume since you said it has overrun pops, cant do that with a piggyback and it does not matter, you can flash any map you want as many times as you want. If it runs good now, log it and see, might not want to change the tune anyway if its decent.

Thanks for your help! Only reason I am asking is I have been chasing a misfire issue (which threw codes), changed plugs to the NGK 97506's and 2nd bank of injectors and now it's running ok but I still have a constant hesitation/misfire (now with no codes). So I assumed maybe there was something wrong with the map but heyho..

I'm FBO minus inlets/outlets running pump gas (UK). I just got my hands on ProTools last night so I'm going to run a live log on all the cylinders to find if one is out of sync and go from there.

Worth mentioning I've just looked up the difference between the NGK 91785 and the 97506s and the thread length on the N54 97506s is around 2mm+ longer

Just get MHD and load up a OTS map.

If you want a custom tune they are cheap AF.

Unless you never want to change anything performance wise on the car and the logs look VERY good would be the only reason to run the tune it currently has.

Probably tuned with one of three

1) MHD
2) Cobb
3) JB4-5

Cobb would have a remote type attachment

MHD will not have any type of attachment to make it work, but it's an app on your phone or tablet

JB4-5 has an app, but it also is hard wired and what not to the DME, in the engine bay.

On the JB4 front, you can hit some button combos on your steering wheel to get into the settings menu if so. I forget which buttons, I uninstalled JB4 a while ago and just pressed the buttons by muscle memory. But if the button combo works you'll know JB4 is installed. It could even just be on a different map but still stock

Why don't you just ask the guy you bought the car from exactly what the tune is? Seems like the easiest way...

I can't imagine buy a tuned car and not knowing about it...

You'd be surprised, lots of cars get dumped off at dealerships. My buddy got a WRX a while back and it ran like shit and got his bumper dirty af from running so rich. Basically the previous owner had a Cobb tune hooked up and then unmarried the Cobb which means you revert the car to stock. It's a little different than what you said but in this case he bought a modded car with no tune lol

Fair enough but in this case it was advertised as being tuned...

Your VIN is on your windshield. Anyone can walk up and read it. No reason to hide it on the internet

Just flash back to stock. Find out what mods you have and either flash the appropriate OTS map or get a custom toon.
