Unhappy Three Teens Killed in Fiery Single-Car Crash in Plano Identified

So utterly unnecessary and sad.

https://www.nbcdfw.com/news/traffic/...-dead/2312485/

I'm trying to figure out the model of the “2019 BMW sedan”.

Sad. Really impossible to tell the model from small, highly damaged pieces shown in the news clip. Must have been traveling at a very high rate of speed to destroy the car like that.

I know it's not important in the grand scheme of things.

Terrible accident. RIP and condolences to the families.

I'd guess a 3 Series or 4 Series GC based on the door sizes, not that it matters. I hope their passing was swift and as painless as possible.

Awful news. I've seen far too many stories like this.

Good luck to the families that will be dealing with it for the rest of their lives.

So we worry about our kids, but really lots of good stuff happens after midnight, that's why young people want to be out then. In fact, more good stuff happens than bad stuff.

So not to be "that guy", but why the concern over this accident. Statistically there are about 33,654 fatal car accidents in the US every year....thats 92 fatals a day.

This accident was tragic to be sure, but no more or less than the other 91 that happened today.

I think it's a G20 in Sunset based on one of thr pics in the video (the taillights and the non-red reddish color)

Putting him in a car with lower safety ratings with less technology than today that could potentially prevent a crash? Methinks-not. I'm sure he'll like it, but with my son I'd prefer him driving a newer smaller car, and getting him the proper training to avoid emergency/crash situations. Also I don't think the BMW here was at fault for causing the crash, it unfortunately sounds like maybe the new driver was showing off for friends. Really sad to see.

Or don't give him a car if he isn't responsible. Many of us learned to drive without tech to keep us safe. Frankly if you look at the wreck in this story the high tech modern car didn't save them, what killed them was a lack of responsibility and respect and high speed.

Take the time to teach your kid to drive safely. And if you don't think that they are mature enough don't give them a car. The car in this wreck was probably a newish BMW, did it save them? No it did not.

Totally agree, but in any case I would rather stack the odds and say, if his training fails him, or if ultimately there's a situation that is completely unexpected and predicated on someone else being negligent with his/her driving (drunk driver for example), then I'd want to make sure he was protected the best he can.

1997-01 F150 Crash test VS 2017 F30 is a good example of why a 23 year old truck isn't going to be better in the event of a crash compared to something more modern we're familiar with. The results are pretty eye-opening:

My youngest is driving a shitbox Pontiac Vibe. He's never been interested in going fast. The car for him gets him where he'd like to go, which is often the Train to the City to see friends. There are so many things out there that can kill you. Kids need to be made aware of the dangers. It makes me laugh when folks think that buying their kid a new BMW to keep them safe is a good thing....not even close. That's a show, and lazy. Take your kids out and teach them to drive defensively. Offset lane positions, safe following distances, slowing down in bad weather, shoulder checking, mirrors etc. Don't drink and drive and if you don't think your kid is responsible don't buy them a car that is really fast with a great crash rating and pat yourself on the back.

I was a cop for over 30 years....the majority of the crashes I saw in the wee hours that involved young drivers and catastrophic injuries were privileged kids driving new cars and often BMW's or something similar.....almost never saw those accidents in old shit boxes.

Hit close to home. That was actually near my previous neighborhood.

Lightbulb

As a parent myself, of 2 young Boys. My 14yr old will be driving soon. But another couple of years before he's driving by himself. I take great pride in how I raise my children. But you have to walk that fine line of: Discipline and Freedom so as to NOT cause a 'rebellion' type of nature. I practice a "tough love". But my boys are rewarded far and beyond what I received at their ages. And I'm sure it will continue as we have the means to do so. Communicating with them regularly about ALL types of subject matter, including this very tragic matter is necessary. I always use news stories such as this as a opportunity to remind them of how fragile life is. And to never cave in to "peer pressure". Thus far I can happily and proudly say that they are making us very proud.
Good parenting is much more reflected of your kids actions when they are away from home and you/us parents.
I also practice and preach good 'decision making'. "Would Dad allow me to do this? What would Mom/Dad do"? Will they ALWAYS do this? I hope and pray so. But I KNOW that I have raised them very well and communicate just as well every day while they are with us...
