iPhone 2.1 available 9/12

I just saw steve Jobs video unveiling the new iPods Classic, Nano, and Touch. He also announced that the iPhone new software upgrade version 2.1 will be available Friday.

That's great! I was waiting for this upgrade and hoping it'd fix all of the annoying iPhone3G bugs. I'm crossing my fingers so it'll work. I like the new "Genius" feature that auto-generates playlists.

Disappointingly, i just downloaded 2.1 & the echo is ever present! Also, the contact list does not display custom labels. I guess I have to switch my sim back into the old iphone

Can anyone confirm if the 2.1 update allows phonebook syncing? I've been patiently waiting for this. I lost my phonebook sync after upgrading from 1.1.4.

I cannot confirm personally, but I've had 2 people so tell me that the answer is "no".

I updated last night and the address book sync is still not working... I also lost my address book since 1.1.4.

I tried a friends 3G iphone with 2.0.2 in my car and it sync perfectly... so I am not sure what the problem with my phone is.

I wish they would get their act together on this issue.

I just tried deleting all my contacts on the iphone then created just one contact and tried to resync with the car but still no address book. It just says "please wait" and the does nothing.

I updated to 2.1 as soon as it was available and have not been able to synch with my contacts ever since ('07 335i with idrive). I had no problem prior to this and am thinking of getting rid of the phone because of it. The main reason I went to this phone was because of the positive reports from this post and others about compatibility with idrive and synching contacts. This is a MAJOR issue for me as I spend a lot of time in my car for business and the lack of contacts via voice or idrive is frustrating. Any help or advice on this would be greatly appreciated. I spent 4 hrs total with my service provider and Mac support and the provider tells me that it is an iphone issue and Mac tells me that they never supported this feature. I looked on BMW's site and it seems that the original iphone had this feature listed as compatible. Mac needs to get it together or they will lose the business user they are trying to get with the 3G enhancements. There are a lot of other shortcomings with the phone that I am willing to live with but this is not one of them. Any suggestions?

I upgraded to 2.1 and my contacts work fine in my car (I have a 2006 330i with the old software, never upgraded).

My contacts were working fine until 2.1 update.... now they don't load... i'm gonna go back to 2.0.2 until the next update....
I have an 07 328i with no idrive just bluetooth.

I've posted a potential fix

on my blog that involves adding 2000 fake contacts to the iPhone

Fix for iPhone and BMW iDrive address book not synchronising

It's pretty much a 100% success rate for those with an iDrive in all makes and models 2005-2008, 1series - 6 series. Worked for me in Dec-2005 E60 M5 with iPhone 3G running 2.1

A few without iDrive, just the prof radio, have reported no joy but give it a go. If it works please leave a comment on the blog to let others know iPhone version, BMW model, year, etc
