Hyundai advertising better through corners than BMW
You can imagine my surprise when I was watching TV tonight and a commercial came on for the Hyundai Genesis boasting that it outperforms the BMW 550i in the corners achieving .94Gs. If they were trying to get the attention of BMW owners, they sure got mine. Has anyone else seen this commercial? Couldn't find it on YouTube. This is a little scary to think that a point A to point B HYUNDAI is doing .94Gs in the corners, if it's true. It wasn't long ago that Hyundai was just about the cheapest car one could buy -- like those $500 cars in India.

I'm sorry. Even if you sell one to me for $10000, I wouldn't buy it. Even if you give me a Hyundai for free, I wouldn't take it. If I can't drive a BMW, I'd rather drive a Honda over a Hyundai.

That commercial is catching peoples ear I guess. It got me to look up and my dad even brought it up on a recent phone conversation. Motor Trend reports the frame is up to 15% stiffer than a 5 series while being lighter. 368hp V8 that does 0-60 "well under 6 seconds". $40,000 completely loaded V8.
As I told my pop I would not buy one but the guy/girl who does watch every penny and buys for value, warranty and features, I think it will sell. Hyundai has improved their quality considerably over the years for whatever that's worth.

I think it's good for Hyundai and all of us.
Maybe this may keep car pricing rising.

I am sorry but the car looks like an ugly 5-series clone. Its like someone took the 5 and distorted it and then sent one version of the distortion to Lexus and one to Hyundai. And look at the interior...I have never seen an uglier layout than that in my life.
And about the engine...I am sure its the same. They can copy more of the engine from BMW because you can't really see what's inside and you don't care its a clone. Let's see the fuel consumption figures though. |

The problem is that a skid pad number and handling around corners are mutually exclusive. I can make a car that can do a million G's on a smoth skidpad, but would be undrivable in corners - it might pull a higher number than the 550 (probably only due to the RFT's on the 550 - good rubber would probaby make a difference), but would get destroyed on a twisty road I am betting.
Still, kudos to Hyundai for taking a crack at the Germans and while not making a better or even equal car, making one hell of a car for the money - more than any of the domestic automakers (CTS currently excluded) have ever managed!

I follow the Scientific Method--at least to a degree.
I'm skeptical, but open-minded. I won't make a judgment until I actually test drive this thing...or at the very least read an article from someone who's driven the car and also driven its BMW counterpart.

the worst this can do is force BMW to think about making their cars better. In case you all forget competition drives innovation... The best thing that could ever happen is a car that costs 20k less outperform its BMW counterpart at anything...

Skidpad G rating is only one piece to the puzzle.. don't get up in arms.
Though I have to say, if there was one auto company's stock I had to choose today to buy that would Hyndai. It's going to be the BMW of Asia.

Like the views of many members here, I do agree that we've got to respect Hyundai for what it's trying to do, whether the end result is good or not. But, what I think is irritating to most of the ppl here is the fact that they are comparing their car to a BMW even before it has been proven/rated to perform on normal roads/tracks by enthusiasts which is what the trademark of a car like BMW is. But by doing this, they are actually trying to capture the market of the people who always wanted to buy that dream car, but could never afford it even though many of them do not understand what a car like BMW is all about!!! There are so many like that out there As long as people like that are looking to buy cars, they will be attracted towards such comparisons!!!
