Is it an AGM battery or not?
Hello from Italy, my friends. Due to coronavirus, we are all in quarantine, and my 2009 320d and 2020 x1 18d are closed in garage, for God knows how much time. So I bought a noco battery charger (and God knows when amazon will deliver it), but i don't know if my e90 has an agm battery or not. I wold like to know because there are different charging programs to use. This is the battery
![]() I saw that some ar marked with the agm writing, and some other not. what u think about it? |

![]() Unfortunately, looks like the battery in that website is different from mine. It has a different code, and it is marked on top with VRLA/AGM. Mine is not. You can't see it, but below that red wire is written "do not open", but there are no clues about the tecnology used (AGM? EFB? Simple 12V?) At least I can see that is a Varta. Have a nice day. |

![]() And yours is a varta too? You know that is agm because is marked on top or what? I wonder if there is a way to recognize the technology of a battery by looking at some external feature. |

BMW AGM batteries all have a full black case (lid and case). Lithium Ions used in the F80 for example are also full black but you can tell them apart as the lithiums are made in Japan and have a fat vent tube connector, aside from the 'empty' feeling when you lift one.
EFB have a black lid and white case. Conventional are mostly full white (lid and case) but some of the recent ones have black lids and white cases. They usually state the technology on the label. |
