Coronavirus Work Status Thread

Just wanted to start a thread to track how many people are out of work, are working from home, or are deemed an "essential business" and working on-site.

I'll start.

I'm a Senior Software Engineer for a major US-based hosting company. Our business is deemed "essential" due to hosting government, medical, and other important websites. Most staff has been on mandatory work from home since March 16th, with only minimal staffing at our datacenter locations. I actually started working from home a week before that.

I'm active military, so my unit is still working.

Now I just conduct 0630 accountability formation at double arm interval for social distancing purposes.

Although I went from seeing 10-15 patients a day in clinic... to just 2 by phone today on the schedule.

the boredom has turned me into a wannabe day-trader.

In IT. My company was designated as essential. Working from home.

I have friends who are Federal Government contractors. They're not doing so well even though they're technically "employed". They were on a every other week schedule to be on site. On their off week, they would have to use PTO. If the person has no PTO to use, it's leave without pay. This just changed where now they've designated a small group of people as essential to work. The rest were divided into groups and placed on standby. If needed a specific group would be called in. So now more people are out of work. One of my friend's company said they'll get paid for 3 weeks since he was placed in the standby group. After that, who knows. Probably leave without pay.

Times such as this makes me glad to be out of Federal Government contracting work.

I'm working from home but I've always worked from home so it's business as usual.

I'm working from home. Full time, gotta bill the same amount of hours as usual. I usually work from home 1 day a week or so, so it's not that big a deal but it's nice to go into the office and get some peace, go get lunch, and then go home. Now, stuck at home 24/7 is rough! Especially since i take a short train ride in (aka alone time to watch Narcos Mexico) and now i've little time to myself.

Engineering Manager in a Chemical Plant that caters to Oil & Gas, HI&I (Household, Industrial & Institutional), Silicones, Quats, Amines, and formulated surfactants.

So we are considered an essential business.

So all of us are onsite except for customer service and front office people who are working from home.

Where I am is not as chaotic as the City, but in my view everyone has the infection. Even if they came in for trauma.

As a ups driver we out here working!

Social distancing lunch. Today the downtown routes are extremely light. This rarely happens that 4 of us can eat together lol.

Risk manager for an investment bank in lower Manhattan. I'm deemed essential BUT I can wfh. I do have the official letter deeming me eligible to travel I to Manhattan (in the event of a lockdown) should the VPN network comes crashing down

Management consultant working from home. It's nice to not be on the road, but all my sales leads are getting pushed out! Totally understandable, but since I just handed off management of my primary client in February, this year is going to suuuuuck for me.

I am unemployed for the first time (other than a couple weeks between jobs years ago) in 35 years. Also first time fired. Waiting for checks I guess, and then driving my BMW to the food bank line.

Spend the first 10 mins of the shift doning up and making sure I have enough PPE for the shift. As I said everyone has it. Even the people I work with. I don’t go to the supermarket without gloves and mask, and I don’t go to work without the same. I consider everyone with it. The death rate in the US is about 1.5%. I don’t need to be one of those unfortunate persons.

Working from home, but I've been working from home for the past like 4 years so does it still count? So far no issue with income, however many of my clients all have brick and mortar businesses so if they start to go under I will definitely be affected.

Working from home, but gave notice earlier this month so Monday will be my last day. Going full time Dad for a while which helps now that we’re part time teachers with the kids home.
