Audiophiles - Sennheiser blue tack mod ??
I don't know how many audiophiles are out there, but I just purchased a set of the Sennheiser HD280pro's:
The sound clarity/quality is outstanding, but I would like more bass. I have read on-line about something called a "blue tack mod" (with various spellings) where you use the blue ticky-tack (the kind you use to stick posterboard onto walls, etc) and line the inside of each headphone casing with it... this supposedly greatly improves bass and can be applied to several over-the-ear headsets. My question is, has anyone done this that could PM me a little DIY? I can't seem to find an actual DIY on the web, although it is referred-to on several audiophile forums. Thanks!

ok ok so I added 2x as much to each side (0.5oz on each side). Here is the DIY (the only one on the net, from what I could find!!)
"Blu-tak Mod" (done with HandiTAK on Sennheiser HD280pro's) 1) The headphones: 2) You need to take the padded ear insulation off... just grab ahold of it and gently pull away from the rest of the headpiece: This is what it will look like without the earphone covering: 3) Now just unscrew the 2 screws seen in the picture: 4) Once the screws are out, gently pull up on the face of the earphone. It will easily come off, but don't pull too hard as there is a wire connecting the two pieces of the earphone... the wire is particularly short on the RIGHT earphone, so be careful!! Closeup: 5) Next, while the facecover is just lifted from the rest of the unit, make sure to pull the wire out of it's holder to give you a little more slack: Here is what you have so far: 6) Now, get the blu-tak, or whatever ticky-tack thing you bought: 7) I took off one stick, which is 0.5oz (according to the box) for each side: 8) I rolled the HandiTAK into a roll and from there, flattened it out to cover the whole inside of the headset. However, the second time I did it, I found it easier to just make a discus the approximate size of the inside of the headset and just stuck it down and mashed it into all the corners... Final product: 9) Now just reverse the steps to put it all back together!! Review: I found that this mod does NOT produce a night-and-day difference. However, I DO notice a difference... it's hard to explain... But now I can FEEL the bass about 30% more than I did before... not a HUGE gain, but a certain one, and for the price of $1.99, why not?
