United has increased price of E85

This afternoon, I went and filled up with E85 at the Loganlea United Service Station. The price has increased from 149.9 cents per litre to 159.9. It is straight out profit gouging. The price of 98 ULP has dropped considerably so if anything E85 should be cheaper as the 15% 98 ULP component would cost less. It is amazing how every other business is being asked to reduce costs during the coronavirus pandemic while service stations just continue to rip us off and apparently cannot be controlled by any authority. Just recently, two BP service stations only a couple kilometres apart had the price of 98 Ultimate vary by 45c per litre. Unbelievable.

Petrol here in SA is 87c per litre now, with 98 at $1.09? I wouldn't say the service stations are ripping us off at those prices.

What drives the price of ethanol? Is it the sugar or corn price? Maybe they've jumped given various natural disasters / droughts etc over the last couple of years pushing up the price of E85?

I reckon hand sanitiser demand has pushed ethanol prices through the roof TBH (supply & demand)

That's pretty likely given the demand worldwide + failed crops / natural disasters... makes sense.

At the prices of 98 in SA, I agree with your comment. However, in Queensland, it is a different story. As I stated above, the other day, two BP service stations only a couple of kilometres apart were selling 98 for $1.34.9 and $1.80.9 per litre. Around $1.40 is the cheapest you will get 98 in Qld.

E85 in Qld was $1.39.9 18 mths ago than it rose to $1.49.9 and now $1.59.9. The price of ethanol has been steady and the price of 98 has dropped so this is straight profiteering.

Yep - that sounds like a good gouge to me!

United's wholesale price for 98 in Brisbane is currently $1.05 including GST as of 31/3.

United at Loganlea has 98 at $1.46.9 by PetrolSpy at the present moment.

I was running an E60 blend using United E85 107 Race blend and BP Ultimate 18-24+ months ago. At that time, E85 was $1.40/l, which barely made it worth it, since, at full E85, you use 30% more fuel, which effectively priced it at $1.80/l - and you need the supporting fueling mods to make the additional horsepower, which I didn't have. I ended up making less HP so the HPFP could keep up.
I saw it recently at $1.50/l and thought definitely not worth it since it's now effectively $1.95/l.
At $1.60/l it's ridiculously expensive and effectively $2.10/l !
It used to be $1/l :-/

High level of competition.

Mobil has aggressively opened new X-Convenience service stations over the last 12 months or so, either buying Liberty sites or building new sites, which has had a domino effect with Caltex and OTR (BP) so there's a price war going on. We've had very reasonable fuel prices vs the wholesale price for the last few months.

Ethanol producers are likely swinging production to sterilisation products. On the other hand the demand for petrol is sweet FA!

Might have to resort to putting hand sanitiser in the tank

United Fuel Prices in Australia. It appears there is a $0.35 per litre profit in Brisbane.

I noticed BP dropped their prices around here today. E10 99.9 (Costco has it for 88.7), ULP91 $1.02, Ultimate98 $1.22. Cheapest it's been for many, many years.

United in Brisbane has increased the price of E85 again by another $0.10 to $1.69.9 per litre. That is $0.20/L increase in the past 2 months. Completely unjustified and straight out profiteering. A couple of months ago, 98 unleaded was $1.70 and E85 was $1.49.9 and now 98 is $1.09 while E85 is $1.69.9. That is a $0.80/L increase for E85 over 98. Unreal.

Guessing trying to offset losses on other fuels at the moment
Watch the fuel prices skyrocket, once restrictions are relaxed

Hmm yeah in the past E85 was good value as even though you used more of it, the savings kinda evened out the price difference with 98.

But at the end of the day its still cheap for race fuel
