Very odd question. The stock suspension is not height adjustable coilover. Yes, on one end the shock is covered by the spring...hence coil over spring..but that is not what 99% of us refer to as coilovers. The springs are made of metal...so are the shocks.

The reason for me asking is :

I'm looking at coilovers, and there area few *fully adjustable* sets that span anywhere from 1000 to 3000 dollars.

The only tangible difference between them is brand and material.

The cheaper ones are aluminum, the middle ones are aluminum/steel mix, and the expensive ones are all steel.

If the stock setup is aluminum, then I don't care if the coilovers are aluminum.
But if stock is steel, then I would go with steel.

You are also missing the fact that, although every coilover is height adjustable, some of the higher end ones offer rebound/dampening adjustments too. These are what can allow you to set a firm track setup to a comfortable, higher street setup without the need to change out your suspension every time... plus the material and the brand name of course...

Hope that helps!

personally, I'd be more worried about stuff like how easily the dampers can be adjusted, the spring rates, the manufacturer's reputation for quality, the increments of adjustment, than the material used....

If you change the height, don't you need to get an alignment?

You can get D2 racing coilovers with :
- dampening adjustment, both up and down
- height adjustment
- preload adjustment
- camber adjustment
$1000

So there has to be a reason why they are cheap. They've got everything the KW v3's have, plus camber adjust. And they cost half of what the KW v3's cost.

The only difference I see between them is materials.

$2000

$1000

edit :
and these for $1500.

99% might not be accurate. "Coilover" means "coil over". Some coilovers are height adjustable. Some are not. But I think most believe that "adjustable" and "coilover" are somehow related...
