Unlocking my iPhone with a face mask on is a pain

If your phone has Face ID this can be a pain. They should have kept Touch ID maybe put it in the back making the Apple logo the Touch ID and making it light up like the old MacBook.

I work for a company who deal with face recognition and apples is trash, even the fact its 1 to 1 matching. twins can open each others phones and as you mention they can use a cheap mask to unlock as well.

I couldn't agree more. I hope to God they integrate some sort of Touch ID sensor in the new iPhones. Then I'd actually buy one. I work in an operating room so I wear a face mask every day anyways. And to make it worse I have to use my phone very frequently to document quality measures and for electronic medical records access. Yes you can just type in the passcode but it's after Face ID attempts to scan your face twice. I would say I have to go through this process probably 100+ times in a work day. It's pretty irritating... and to make it worse my new sunglasses won't even work with Face ID! My old ones never gave me an issue, so I'm now living in a Face ID nightmare

If you're working in an OR aren't you wearing gloves? Wouldn't that interfere with the touch ID? Can you take the lock function off during the day?

Have you tried setting up an alternate appearance in settings? It worked with my ski mask last year.

Go to: Face ID & Passcode>Set Up an Alternate Appearance

Yes I'm wearing gloves but I'm not scrubbed in so I can just take them off whenever and use hand sanitizer. I could take the lock function off but then I'd have to manually type in my password multiple times a day to my work related apps to access them because they have HIPAA compliant security. That and deactivating and reactivating Face ID every day would be a pain in the ass.

Yes definitely. It's not like airplanes where the EM waves supposedly interfere with sensitive machinery and electronics. The most complex thing in the room is the anesthesia machine and it's mostly mechanical. I use my iPhone for work related apps, and to contact my colleagues and attending anesthesiologists. It's kind of weird how much they expect you to use your personal phone for work. My company gives a $500 stipend biannually for a phone though at least.

I miss my iPhone 7 Touch ID too!

I think you can save an additional ID image on your phone with the face mask too but that's also a pain.

I think they plan on doing an in screen sensor. I'd rather just have one on the back.

I tried to train it with a face mask on but it didn't take. But maybe with a real face mask rather than a bandana it will work.

Let me tell you about the damn understeer I'm experiencing in my M6. It's starting to ruin the driving experience. I'm debating on going with polyurethane bushings vs the OEM. It's horrible. Horrible, I tell you. What am I to do?

If you're in the operating room, aren't you wearing surgical gloves? Does TouchID work on gloved fingers?

It’s not a bug, it’s a feature - why would you want to pull out your phone, something you constantly touch, somewhere where you need to be wearing a mask? Keep it in your pocket

Just wear you mask down on your chin or up on your forehead like everyone else at the grocery store.
