So i've been wondering what's better. i want to run Pure 600s it Pure Stage 2's and i wanna know what you guys think is a better idea?

i'm not 100% sure how much a manual swap is. i'd assume around the same as building the auto. let me know dow below if you know! I have a 2007 car so it will be cheaper to manual swap than newer cars cause i need less parts.

At those levels you should be fine w/ just the upgraded clutches, bushes, and the zip kit. If you need more, Nizpro has billet shafts for sale, but they're pricey and require machining.

If you have not bought the turbos get the car with the transmission you want. A swap is an idea, but a fair amount of labor.

At the end of the day a MT holds the most tq and is the most reliable vs the auto.

There are guys making 900+ hp running the ZF 6HP21 6-speed auto transmissions with the upgraded clutch kits......and I've heard there are also guys making 600+ go on dead stock ones.

Get what you like driving better.....then upgrade from there.

i like the auto cause you can go faster in the end. i'm planning on getting a manual e9x m3. i just wanna go fast... auto is good for that

The only person I know of at that power level snapped their input shaft, they've since upgraded to use Nizpro's billet shafts.

Precision raceworks says they have N54 cars running well over 900hp with the ZF6HP21 using their high performance clutch packs kits........take that for what it's worth.

900 flywheel 20% drive train loss = 720whp?

I think there are VERY few people who have successfully upgraded and had good luck with the n54 auto tranny. Does nispro even make the input shaft anymore? I thought there was something about limited parts on the market and once they are gone that's it as the company has no interest in building more and exedy wanted an order to 10k pieces to continue or something? I never really paid much attention to the N54 auto as it never seemed like it had a clear upgrade path to hold serious tq.

I’m not going to say that I disagree with you. Besides the Precision Raceworks clutch kits, there are NO companies out there that I could find that are making upgraded hard parts/internals for the ZF 6HP21 transmissions….like you said, Nizpro gave up. I can understand why……there just isn’t much demand for them. For most people making big power, a manual transmission is stronger, easier to modify, and a lot less complicated with less issues you have to troubleshoot when something doesn’t work right.

Between all of the sensors, the seals and bushings that are known to fail, the solenoids that go bad, the special/expensive ZF fluid you have to run in them, the complicated valve body with all of the seals and valves that leak, the TCU that controls it all, the fact that it can put the car into limp mode if some parameter isn’t being met……it’s a hell of a lot more complicated than just putting a stronger clutch in a manual transmission.

I would much rather have a manual car….but they seem to be getting harder and harder to find…while the auto ones are all over the place.

I've thought about this swap/built topic for the last year since my auto started missing gears, I rebuilt the valve body, new solenoids, seals, fluid and filter and it's holding for now

I plan to do stage 2 twins and my goal is 550-600whp

I've decided that I'm just going to run this trans until it goes out and then get a newer one and rebuild those parts as well

That newest version of xhp seems to be pretty damn good and it can hold even more torque with more line pressure

Sure that isn't ideal to have the trans as a wear item but I bet a 50k zf with all new maintenance parts and xhp would last me a good 5 years plus at 550-600 so that's the plan

Also going to get an e92 m3 manual as soon as I can, leave it n/a and it'll be the slow weekend cruiser 😉

I wouldn't say NizPro gave up...you can still purchase a built transmission, just be ready to pay for shipping to and from Australia.

Not sure you can. Last I heard they didn't have any clutches and weren't selling assembled units.

That is what I last heard as well. That is why I don't believe there is a current ability or road map of products you can buy to fully bullet proof(or as much as you can any auto) the tranny to handle serious TQ.

It is a shame as I am sure there were many more Autos sold than MTs. As the price comes down on E9xs and people want to make 550+ wtq coupled with the age and miles of the tranny, holding tq is going to become more and more of an issue I believe.

Who knows maybe someone will do something.

at 600whp it wont matter if you go Manual or Auto with XHP tune. Auto will be much faster if you are into straight line racing though, just get a cooler.

yeah manuals stupid hard to find clean ones are like 20k and that's not the business. i got my auto with 75ishk on it for like 10k. i'm in college i don't have that bread. i just want 500-600hp all i want.
