30,000 mile servicing cost??

20k miles since the last service (done when i bought it) and the service is booked in for Monday, BMW claim they cannot advise me until they 'plug' it in to see what needs doing....

assumng there are no horror stories roughly how much should i be expecting to pay, this is the 1st BMW service i have ever had done so am not sure what price to expect.

BTW its an 05 plate 330iSE

i would of thought a 20k service would of had a set price for the std things that need checking/changing/adjusting

thanks for the replies

Seems you just need an oil service. Although best to book the inspection at the same time as its very close to the time to have that done also.

Oil service can cost upto 200 quid with a main dealer. The inspection i think is part of the service but if it needs other work they will let you know.

Thanks

BTW tthe oil is overdue.

I had an oil change with a local independent specialist for £95, my local dealer however were quoting £165+vat.

I'm pretty sure if somebody is complaining that an Indy can't do an oil change v FBMWSH they have no idea about cars and shouldn't be driving

i am very capable of driving thanks, and i didnt say indi's could not do it just saying that when it comes to resale/trade in a BMW garage would want to see their own history to offer the best price so saving a £50 at an indi may cost £00's

My post wasn't directed at you and when i say "they shouldn't be driving" i wasn't expecting to be taken literally.

But i agree for the 20,0000 mile service its not worth it - if you don't plan on keeping the car much longer. Just for the fact that its desirable and even though it may not add value, it may make selling easier.

But i am doing an interim oil change at 10k. So why pay £200 for that, when i can get its done with the same oil (i.e they are supplied by local dealer) for £99. So i won't have a FBMWSH...but i will have changed my oil earlier than recommended - which i don't think is a negative?

Does have any empirical evidence to say that at trade in time (which is when?) that BMW garages want FBMWSH? And would offer you significantly lower without it as long as it was a reputable indy? I've always heard this but since i've never traded a car into a main dealer (personally i think this is the best way to drive up TCO at the end of ownership), i have no experience.

The dealers will offer you as little as possible anyway. I doubt they will even open the service book.

However, I do think that a BMW service history will make a difference on a private sale.

Opening up a nicely completed service book definitely gives the buyer a warm fuzzy feeling about the car and the impression that it's been maintained regardless of cost. I think anyone seeing an independent on there might wonder where else savings had been made.

Illogical, but I think it's probably true.

No i agree with that. I'm a buyer too

But my thoughts are that it wouldn't affect the price, just mean that there would be more potential buyer who would insist on FBMWSH.

But i guess as servicing intervals become longer its less advantageous to go to Indy's in the first 3 or so years or a cars life.
But after that maybe.....especially as we know a lot of the time you get the apprentice working on your car at £100 an hour.
