Lightbulb Automotive Bucketlist

Mine are:

-Porsche European Delivery of a 911 (hopefully they don't shut it down like BMW just has...) and driving along all the scenic, curvy roads in Europe
-spectating Yas Marina F1
-spectating rally racing (don't know much about rallying, but anything where I can see a subie flying through the air in front of my face and being happily sprayed by dirt)

Items checked:
- Own a BMW E92 M3. Was my dream car in college, owned since 2011, will never sell
- Drive on the Nurburgring: Did 3 laps in a rental track prepped VW. It was more of a cruise than anything. Nothing prepares you for how different it is than in video games!
- Visit BMW and Porsche museums
- Do European trip like most ED customers (Stelvio pass, Austria ect ect)
- Have a garage space I can be proud of

To-do:
- Own a Porsche 997.1 GT3
- Do a US cross country road trip and drive up Hwy 1

I have to say, having 1 more big goal to aim at puts me at peace and stops me from looking at Autotrader all day because that goal is not attainable yet.

I’ve been very, very fortunate in my life in that I’ve checked quite a few boxes already.

✅ Own a Porsche (or two)
✅ Own a BMW M (E92 and 2 F80s)
✅ Drive the Nurburgring
✅ Drive the Stelvio Pass
✅ Drive as many F1 tracks as I could (Spa, Monza, Imola, Nürburgring, Circuit de Catalunya)
✅ Max my car on the autobahn
✅ European delivery of an M car

Still to go:

❎ Own an electric car
❎ Drive the Transfagarasan Highway
❎ Drive the Red Bull Ring and Hungaroring before I leave Europe in a few months

Checked:
- Own/rice out a subaru
- Own a M3 (sure this wont be the last)
- Build out dream garage (partially complete but this is definitely not our forever home/garage/apartment. Extremely challenging in the city and wife is getting annoyed that this is a must )

Wishes/Potential next vehicles:
- F1 - maybe Montreal next year, could turn it into a roadtrip
- G series M3 - tbd, maybe in 2-3 years
- GT3RS (hopefully a used .1)

They're great cars. I actually looked into getting an E86M but went with the E85M instead and have had no regrets. I know that's not the norm around here, but being able to enjoy the car with the top down adds a huge element the enjoyment. Plus it's different than my other cars.

We have the Blue Ridge Parkway about 1hr from my house and the car is a joy to drive up there!

Good point. I won’t make the jump to full electric until infrastructure improves, range anxiety has been resolved, and the price becomes more aligned with petrol-powered cars. Instant torque is a nice thing.

CHECKED
1. 91' MB 500SL owned it for 10 years with only 60K on the odometer
2. 16' C7 Corvette Z51 wrecked it with only 500 miles on the odometer

UNCHECKED
1. 911 -- any late model Carrera 4S
2. 328 GTSi -- bright red like in Magnum PI. It's under power and problematic but it's the prettiest driveway ornament.

UNREALISTIC
1. 918 -- in silver of course
2. Portofino -- in rosso corsa naturally

To this day, the SL is still one of the most iconic cars for me and one of the few MB's I'd love to own.

So... may I ask what happened with the Vette?

Interesting thread topic---it's a great time to assess where you've been and where you want to go in the future.

I'm a simple person generally speaking. Here's the bucket list I've checked off:
--Visit/tour all German brands sold in the US (I was also able to sneak in a trip to Ruf)
--Own something fast relative to the 80-100hp cars I owned exclusively until about the age of 25
--Take said faster cars to a track for a track day

What I'd still like to accomplish:
--Own something legendary (or with a large enthusiast following) from all major countries that make cars (I still need Japan, Italy, and Britain)
--Do european delivery (although it's a small possibility at the moment, with BMW shutting down ED this year, I am giving more thought to selling the M3 and doing ED on a Cayman GTS 4.0).
--Attend a Nascar race, Monaco GP, and LeMans

I hit the top of a solid steel manhole structure that was left un-grated in the middle of I-94. It gutted the bottom of the car. The dealer "repaired" the damages but the switch gears, navigation/radio head unit and other electronics would stop working at random.
I made a claim to the state of Michigan but they pretty much said tough luck.
I finally sold it for $50K.

As a side note. Did you know the 90's SL grille were made from aircraft titanium blades?
