The automotive equivalent
You may have heard when a salesperson or a critic compares two items and using Rolls-Royce as the benchmark. What other objects are being compared to a Rolls-Royce or any brand for that matter?
Here's a starter - possibly debatable. "A Rolex is the Rolls-Royce of watches." (Expensive, extravagant and most people have heard of the name) What other unalike items have you heard compared to a vehicle? |

I'm guilty of this, but when looking for a software solution I will often compare software x as the Ferrari and software y as the Civic. Or really anything where one option has the looks and performance at a premium when all I need is something that will get the job done easily and reliably.

I do this all the time, but not with RR, which is so 70's, gold chains, and chest hair.
I do it with Honda cars (Accord/Civic) because they're literally the best product on earth for the money. So... This is the Honda of dishwashers... This is the Honda of computer monitors... Etc. |

A Rolex is more like the Lexus of watches....a Richard Mille would or Romain Gauthier be the Rolls Royce of watches. Just saying.

When delivering the message about KEF being a legendary British loudspeaker manufacturer I often point to Rolls Royce or Bentley. Then I bring up that there might be other speaker companies doing something innovative, but they're new like Tesla and don't have six decades of accomplishments to point to.
That's only one example... just this morning I hosted a webinar where I compared two different series of products to a Ferrari and Corvette. I'm a car guy; I do this all the time.

High end business jets...those are posh like a Rolls Royce with all sorts of lavish features. Planes in general aren't a great example usually, as the build quality isn't what you might be expecting, but those high end business jet cabins would be a pretty good equivalent.

The Reliant Robin is truly the Rolls Royce of economy minded 3-wheeled vehicles.
It easily beats out vehicles like the BMW Isetta and the Peel P50, the latter of which could accurately be termed the "Kia Sephia of economy minded 3-wheeled vehicles." |
