Overboost 30FE: Tune or Solenoids?

Hi,

Apologies for not having a log at the moment, I'll see about getting that.

I'm getting 30FE codes when accelerating at modest throttle, e.g. boost is under 10 (often between 0-5). Generally do not see this when WOT. I've also gotten the HPFP plausibility code but usually only when running Aggressive/OCT93 tunes, rather than ACN91 which is the correct tune for this area.

I'm inclined to replace the solenoid(s) (one? both?) but the lack of issue at WOT seems to indicate that it might be the tune. I'm inclined to try MHT tunes or even going the JB4 route if the issue seems to be on that side.

Don't mind spending time and/or money but don't want to just "guess" as to what the problem is. I suppose that's where the log will help. Hopefully I can grab that shortly, stay tuned, and thanks in advance for the help! Let me know if there's any other info that would help!

Did you just tune the car or what makes you think it is tune related? You can perform a test on your boost solenoids and you should check your lines as well.

Thanks for taking a look.

I'm a new owner of the car and don't know it's history on this issue; it started happening soon after after I bought it (it was modded/tuned when I bought it). I have tried a few different Cobb tunes but all the same result.

What makes me think it's a tune issue is the car is happy in WOT and in lower gears. I can only replicate in higher gears (today it was 4th) at half throttle (linear) / low boost. It just seems _odd_.

I went for a ride grabbed a bunch of logs and only triggered it once, foolishly I cleared the codes and kept logging, now I can't figure out which one is the right file. I quite sure it's one of these two but not 100% sure. What should I look for in these logs as indicators of a problem? (Duh, next time, stop logging... maybe I should just go out and do it again.)

I'm a newbie at both wrenching and modding but happy to learn, but bear with me.

flash it back to the stock map and see if the issue persists. If it doesnt then its likely in the tune.
As far as reading your logs im still pretty new to that myself so ill let someone else dissect those

Did a bit more reading about what some of these values mean; I'll go make some more logs including a few WOTs and see anything stands out.

Yeah, fair enough, should give that a try! Thanks.

Yeah, it pops super easily on stock map in WOT. This is with Cobb still installed but running on "Stage 0."

Stage 0 2nd gear WOT until 30FE
https://datazap.me/u/wuputah/log-159...&data=1-3-4-12

Stage 2+ 4th gear half throttle until 30FE
https://datazap.me/u/wuputah/log-159...data=1-3-12-14

Example of WOT with no codes in Stage2+
https://datazap.me/u/wuputah/wots?lo...12&zoom=91-186

Possibly there's something about the length of time spent on-throttle until 30FE is thrown? Still curious what in the data says to the ECU "too much boost, have to throw 30FE".

PS. I hate ACN91 so much.

Exceeding boost target by a certain margin would cause overboosting code.

I don't know what this boost error is in your logs,

MHD usually shows boost target and boost psi, but I'm guessing your using cobb for Dataloging?

Yeah, using Cobb at the moment, haven't switched over to MHD yet.

The "error" _appears_ to be the difference between the req. boost abs. psi and boost mean abs psi. Negative values in the error are indeed "overboost." That would align with what the 30FE code.
https://datazap.me/u/wuputah/log-159...=1-3-4-5-12-13

What's peculiar to me is the actual boost delivered does not seem to be above target, and nothing "feels broken." But this may be my ignorance in how the system works.

What happens if you run ACN91 with the tune?

ACN91 is what I'm running all around (in the tank and the ACN91 tune).
