Traffic honeymoon over in LA
Bored at home, I decided to go for one of My laps: Sunset Blvd. to the PCH, North to Oxnard - buy gas and hot dog at Costco - then shoot the 101 south home. As of late, the 101 has been an 85-90 mph drive, going with the flow.
But today! Sunset was backed up in all the usual places. I made it about 6 miles and threw in the towel. It seems like everybody around here is like “Covid who?” And headed back to their usual routines. But then I’ve been reading that because of this premature re-opening, there are more new infections than ever! So now is significantly riskier than ever before. I’m gonna stay home as much as possible. |

PCH has been exceptionally bad for driving... but exceptionally good for car spotting.
Been doing essentially the lap you just outlined every sunday through Covid and the cars down there have reached next level. Not sure there is an exotic I haven't seen. |

Probably better off you turned back. Eating at a place like Costco in the current environment is likely not the safest activity.

I commute between Temecula and San Diego, taking the 15 S all the way. It wasn't bad till the last 2 weeks, things are almost back to normal commute traffic. But with everything closing down again, we might see a decline?

Traffic in NorCal is back to (and in some cases, worse than) what it was b4 the crisis started.
People just don't seem to give a sh*t anymore and they're just gonna do what they're gonna do and d*mn the consequences.

Yeah SoCal traffic is near normal levels again. I attribute it to overpopulation and a significant portion of residents who don't work traditional 9-5 type of hours. Even during Covid PCH, Sunset, etc. still had plenty of people when the beaches were open.
I've visited the Seattle area several times during the pandemic and most residents in the suburbs work professional jobs in firms like Microsoft, Amazon, T-mobile, Google, etc. which have had employees at home for months. So rush hour traffic isn't that bad and outside those hours it's totally clear.

I'd say my traffic is probably worse than usual. It died down at the beginning, but I can only assume people are unemployed and bored, since there are so many cars out and people at the parks at 3pm in the afternoon on a weekday.

If stuff recloses again, traffic might let up slightly. Not as much as it was but fingers crossed. Those open roads were something else. I remember blasting up the 5n at a real fun speed for a good 20-30 miles or so after I came across a random e90 m3 on a commute from SD to OC |

It's everywhere. I used to take a short cut to work every day that was absolutely longer distancewise, but got you out of all the semi trucks/coffee drinkers with no jobs but have to come out at 7:30-8:30 because fuck you that's why/people who actually TRY to stop at green light so they can finish putting on their makeup or finish their FB post, etc./just shitty drivers in general - traffic.
After the quarantine started I noticed that the traffic fell enough I could go the direct way and it was glorious. I have to go through more stop lights, but I hit 60-75% of them green because traffic is paying attention and moving. The last week or 2 I have been hanging on to that route, but yesterday I called it dead again after stopping at every light cycle again and one twice - and came in the old longer but faster way again. What a shame - that was great while it lasted.

Still no traffic back to the usual problems yet, but people drive like maniacs. I'll be going 10-15 over on a highway and get passed by a POS driving like a nut job.
