N52 rythmic thumping sound at idle
Its the wobble/thud noise kind of low frequency. Kind of sounds like something wobbling if that makes sense. Consistent thumping fast pace. Kind of like a slight knocking but not really a knock at the same time. Already changed belt and tensioner and idler pulley. I can hear it in cabin too but camera doesn't really pick it up. Any ideas help. Thanks. |

I can't speak for the sound, but if you already replaced your tensioner then the belt movement does not look right. The belt should not be moving back and forth like that on the tensioner.

The deep rythmic noise could just be your HPFP. They do tend to make a rythmic thump...

Erm...yeah so? It's an N52 so it still has a HPFP, doesn't it?

Don't have a tool or scanner. What would you recommend? The dealership offered me what I owe on it i was honestly considering trading er in on a2017 CPO 320i with 25k miles. I would have a lower interest rate as my credit really jumped since I got this one. It almost sounds pulley related. I'll run with belt off and see if any difference.

Drives fine. The noise sounds like helicopter blades if that makes sense. You can hear it pretty clear in that video if you ignore lifter tick

Ahh I hear it now, just for curiosity sake I fired up my car (it was cold and sat all night) to see if I could hear something similar. Interestingly enough I could hear the same rhythmic sound once I started listening for it. Now I have 285k km's on my car and it still pulls like a champ, its main use now is track days and the odd sunny day boot which it does very well. Does that mean this sound is normal? Who knows, but I'm leaning more towards not worrying about it tbh.

Just for the sake of not starting another thread. This noise has been worrying as well.
Most prominent in right side/passenger wheel well. Thinking water pump? Hasn't been replaced yet to my knowledge car has 76k. |

I'm still on the original water pump at 157,500 miles. I've read that you'll actually get codes for speed deviations etc for the water pump once it starts to crap itself. Another reason to get a scanner if you'll be using it for BMW! I have a Foxwell NT510 that I've been pretty happy with, the only thing it let me down on so far was activating the DISAs on a 3-stage intake manifold.
