Red oil service light

Evening all

I have a problem with a red oil service light on the dash in the check control system

It was happily counting down the miles to an oil change with a yellow symbol

By the time I had booked it in and dropped it off at the lopcal Indy it had turned red showing -10 miles

I have reset it but it will only go to zero and stays red

This only shows as a check control function, there is no warning at all when the engine is running

Oil and filter change was done today with good quality oil and genuine filter

Anybody experienced this before or have any advice?

Does the light come on after the oil change? Check your oil level through the dipstick, level car and a warm engine.

Oil level is perfect on the dipstick so no idea what the problem is

Everthing else in the BC control menu resets perfectly

Could it be that if it goes past zero it has to have a trip to the stealer?

Same happens with brake service, if you let that run into minus miles the on board won't work anymore (for some)

Look into CBS reset which I think can be done with INPA/ISTA/TOOL32

I've reset my oil service light once before when it was red, it was the same procedure as it is when amber.
Are you reseting it correctly, see attached link.

Yes, getting into reset menu and ticking clock comes up.

Originally when I tried a reset miles was on -10, it has reset to zero now but it will not go any further?

Just found the answer thanks to the local indy guy

BMW put a limit on the number of service resets you can carry out, 25 on mine so it will not allow another go

Indy is going to remove instrument software and re install it on Monday which should cure it
