How many tickets (moving violations) have you gotten so far in your driving life?

Curious what's the avg. This only involves moving violations (e.g. speeding, improper maneuvers, etc), so exclude parking tickets, etc. Also wish to have more accurate/meaningful results, so calculate # of tickets / years driving, e.g. 10 tickets over 5 years driving means you have an average of 2 tickets per year. Let's round up to 2 decimal place. To start, I'm 0.19 tickets/year.

Poll added for anon/honest/better replies if desired (select most accurate choice).

I used to average three a year. I've gotten two in one day also twice. However, in the past six years I've been ticket free. I still speed.

I think there is a axis missing for this survey to be more accurate. You have Number of tickets on the X axis, years on the Y, and we do the average.

What's missing is driving style and how often you engage in activities which might warrant the ticket. This is axis Z.

Some do "illegal" type driving only rarely. Some consider the speed limits as merely a suggestion.

I think there are a lot of M driver here so this may be relevant.

A lot. Managing my points year to year is one of my things I have to do. I just added 3 points 1 week after getting my M2C.

One year, I had back to back 6 point violations (within 2 weeks of each other) and it confused PA's system according to the person I spoke to at PennDot. At the end of the day, they gave me 6, suspended my license for 14 days, and I had to re take my driver's exam.

Hey, I hear you, I enjoy a brisk drive myself but not if it endangers other ppl. As long as it's objectively w/i the confines of safety, I think it's bogus to get nailed for doing, say, 110kph in 100 zone.

Not sure about per year, as I haven't gotten more than a single ticket every 5 years or so for a long time, but I've had over 50.

And no, that's not a typo.

Around these parts (small town), it's revenue generation really, and once the cops know you, they look out for you.

Some true stories.

My first ticket was for stopping AT the stop sign and not before the stop sign.

My second ticket was for a 58 in a 55.

I once got a ticket for "improperly backing" because the mayor hit me.

I've been held at gun-point for "running" from the cops when I had no idea they were chasing me (curvy road, at night, way ahead of them).

I once got stopped by an officer that admitted to completely making up the speed because he wasn't able to to get a lock on me. I was polite, like always, and ended up getting out of the ticket completely. He didn't make it to court because on the same day he pulled me over, he had pulled an older couple over and had them on the ground at gun-point, so he was in court himself. The judge dropped all charges.

I've been given a drag-racing ticket for road racing (the cop literally did not know the difference).

I've been given a ticket for 152 in a 55, even though the car I had (1986 MR-2) would not do 152.

There's more, but that'll suffice.

Meh, it's not that bad. Most of my tickets were just normal things young car-guys do, I just got caught a lot because I live in a smaller town.

Some people might have a different idea of a brisk drive. For some here it's good the cruisers can only do 155mph.

But now I live in Germany, and here there are no speed limits on good sections of the Autobahn. So I can do 168mph (OG M2 limit with driver pack) till my heart's desire and all is good. Still less than my all time land speed record, which currently stands at 186mph. And probably will for a long time.

This is crazy, are the majority of ppl total law abiders or just lucky not to run into a cop? I thought I had a decent ratio but the majority is near 0. Can't all be lying, right?

Then again, we have ppl that said they have lots but didn't bother taking the poll.

I’ve had one speeding ticket in my life, but got tossed because they said I was doing 82 in a 55 when the speed limit was actually 65. Don’t dispute that I was doing 82, but there’s a big difference between those speed limits. Got tossed!

So, none? (Knock on wood)

I'm kind of guessing around 12 tickets over 32 years of driving, but I haven't gotten a ticket in 26 years.

Your poll options need a bit of help as there are gaps:

0.00-0.05
0.10-0.15
0.20-0.25
0.30

What about someone who gets a ticket on average once every 6 years (0.167) ?

Further, instead requiring someone to do the math simply make it

Never had a ticket
1 every 20 years
1 every 15 years
1 every 10 years
1 every 5 years
1 every 2 years
1 every 1 year
2 every 1 year
5 every 1 year
more than 5 a year

Which is much more understandable.

I know, that's why I said choose the one closest, so for me, I got 0.19 so I went w 0.20.

Your examples don't help cuz they still need to calculate and I already provided the formula.

Anyway, it's obviously imprecise as I should've broken down the lowest choice more since that's where the majority is so far.

8 in 34 years. US and Canada. Especially proud of the one in New Mexico, which at the time was a difficult state to get a speeding ticket in, statistically speeding. 2 in Ontario, Canada which is NOT difficult.

Haven’t even been pulled over since ehhh, 2001.

Priors:
80 in a 45 - speed contest (warning)
No full stop in median after uturn (cited)
Less than 2 car lengths behind when raining (cited) - such a joke, I was going 25 mph behind a buddy
Wet reckless (cited) - dumb and freshman in college. 50/50 would have gotten tossed due to errors in the report and holes in the radio tapes, but downside to fighting it was stiffer penalties. Cop tried to claim I raced the guy next to me who peeled out and took off. I never broke the speed limit.
Speeding, 78 in a 65 (cited)
Speeding, 95 in a 65 (warning to keep it under 80)

All of the above were college era citations. Moral of the story is don’t mess around in a college town because they’ll nail you for stuff you didn’t even know was illegal.
