Cracked alloy wheel - pulse check
Hey guys
Car threw out a tyre pressure warning other day and seemed like the front left had a slow air leak. Jax Tyres looked at it and identified a crack in the allow wheel so I’m going to get it welded and repaired tomorrow. I have read that this is a known issue, was quite common in the UK but just wanted to ask 1. Anyone else here had the issue? Just getting a sense of how common it is in Australia? 2 I’m running then BM 19 inch 10 spoke M sport pack rims (Model no??) on Bridgestone r050as RFTs - 35 aspect front and 30 aspect rear. Must be stiff sidewalls contributing to stress on the alloy wheel. Anyone else had issues with 19inch Rims and RFTs? From the UK stuff I read this was the combo that had the most common issues but possibly their roads are worse than ours 3. Has anyone switched to 18 inch rims or non- RFTs To mitigate this risk? What’s your experience with non- RFTs? Pic of front wheel attached To show the rim type. It’s the driver side one, tight fit in my garage so can’t get a pic of the offending wheel on other side Last edited by newbie335i; 07-18-2020 at 07:39 PM.. |

Those wheels are 225m
I have them in mine but no cracks yet on mine. Get rid of the run flats ASAP. They are the devils work

Very prone to cracking the 225M's..
Best thing to do IMO is buy some 437M rims off a F8X M3 or M4. These rims are light weight look great generally come with decent tyres too! |

Thanks all for the feedback. Message received loud and clear on getting off the RFTs
had the offending wheel welded and repaired - there were 2 small cracks :-O ... no idea how, don't remember hitting any potholes ... hopefully this will hold for a little while and buys me some time so I can get some other more pressing maintenance done first (front structs, castors and 80k service) and then will look at new rims (prob drop down a size to 18s) and non- RFT tyres drove so carefully to work this morning ... driving miss daisy lol |
