E90 N55 fbo stage 2+ hp/TQ numbers issue ? PLEASE HELP
Hey guys, I have a 2011 N55 E90 335i. Im in California and running 91 octane pump gas. It has the following mods:
VRSF chargepipe VRSF Downpipe VRSF 5" HD intercooler VRSF street exhaust BMS intake NGK 97506 colder spark plugs MHD stage 2+ ACN91 I am full bolt on with the proper upgrades and tuned. Recently dyno my car to see what numbers it makes. They turned out very interesting. 4 runs total on a dynojet. Doing research, I assumed my car would make ~ 350hp ( at least ) and ~ 380tq being on 91 pump gas mhd stage 2+ fbo. Unfortunately my numbers were not close at all. Best run I made 310hp and 432tq... very thrown off by these numbers. First two runs were fine and the last two runs, power/torque dropped significantly. Maybe due to a boost leak or heat soak but not too sure. I did not log. It does not make any sense to be making 10 more hp from full bolt on and tuned. My torque number is way more than expected. Stock numbers are 300hp and 300tq. Very confused on how I only gained 10hp and 132tq ?? Can someone justify or explain what is wrong ? I also dont know why the line dipped during my last two runs. Any info will be helpful. Thanks ! |

The axis is a litl hard to see but Actually looks like the car is making 400whp or more. At 5252rpm torque and hp are same. Congrats!

Both sides of the dyno graph are different axis. Left side is power and right side torque. The left side only shows up to 350hp and the right only shows up to 470tq. Also says max power = 309.99 and max torque says = 431.32

The stock N55 makes 300 BHP. A dyno measures wheel horsepower. Factor in drivetrain losses, stock N55 would put down ~260 WHP.
Dyno results are not very useful without a baseline. You should have gone to dyno bone stock and got real WHP numbers to compare against. Without logs I'm not sure what we can gather. Was boost on target? Was timing being pulled? What were your IATs? etc etc. |

Your tq curve drops like a rock at 4k and the hp curve never rises after that. (peak tq will always be before/around 4k, which is why there's such a disparity between hp and tq) My guess is massive timing corrections, boost leak, or a lot of overboost causing the throttle to close. Like bmv335ie90 said, the only way to tell is with a log. Do you have any logs even before the dyno run? Probably would've been doing the same then.

That's about what I'd expect for an N55. They always make gobs of torque with fairly minimal whp gains, unless you're using ethanol. 91 Cali gas is horrible so 310whp really isn't terrible all considered. Agree with the poster above that stock you're probably making 270 ish whp so a 40whp gain is likely a little more at the crank and about what you should expect. I don't think I've seen an E chassis N55 make 350whp without any ethanol, and definitely not on 91 octane.

Nope I think you're right about where you should be. If you have access to ethanol, an e30 mix with a tune should get you to 350.

Is there a difference between ACN 91 and OCT 91 on MHD ? Will there be a difference in power or anything ?

I made 292 awhp and 305 awtq on my X1 stock, 92 octane fuel. You should always log your dyno runs as it will tell the full story. Ideally you would get a baseline on the same dyno before getting power pulls. I would say 310 whp is a little lower than what I would expect but not by too much. 325ish whp is what I would have guessed.
