Boost canister delete with twin turbo set up
Does anyone out there know how to run a Mac solenoid with upgraded turbos to delete the stock boost canisters. I've been researching but I've only seen ones for single turbos

Why wouldn’t you just do the delete and leave the stock boost controllers? Sounds like money not well spent. You’d need to run single turbo firmware on a jb4 or a motiv boost box to convert the signal for the Mac solenoid.

Boost cannisters are there for a reason, wouldn't recommend deleting them.

I want to delete them because the canisters are ugly and I will be upgrading my turbos like vehicular diy did( check him out on YouTube). I don't want too run the stock boost canisters on that high of boost if it can cause problems

Yeah, people call them boost cannisters probably cause they are used to control the wastegates under boost.
The below reply is from N54 tech, (Terry - BMS) Function of vacuum canisters = "They are used to control the vacuum operated wastegates under engine boost." " The vacuum coming off the pump is not fully regulated so will fluctuate. Without a canister inline the vacuum pull on the WGs can also fluctuate. I'm sure it would work but won't be an ideal situation IMHO." Last edited by Saif2018; 07-29-2020 at 03:58 AM.. |

I understand that. You can delete the vacuum canisters and leave the stock boost controllers in place. You don't need to spend any money.

They act as a damper to the vacuum system. Increases the volume exponentially to ensure consistent vacuum performance for the wastegates.

I would get the nice Stett ones over deleting them. They look better and they still do their job. Some people have noticed their OEM ones were leaking once they made the switch.

I read somewhere long ago that they have something to do with being in high altitude. The canisters help close the waste gates in high altitude. If I recall it also said that you can delete them if altitude is not an issue for you. Hence why a lot of people relocated inlets and ST guys are doing so.

You delete them with a single turbo because single turbos aren't vacuum controlled wastegates.
You delete them from twins because they aren't needed. I have hybrids, runs great and no canisters, no problems. |

Some of you guys are removing them because you don't like how they look?? Why don't you just remove that ugly electric fan too....🙄
You know that they store vacuum and allow the wastegates to close faster than just using motor vacuum....right? Do you think the BMW engineers just put them on there for the hell of it? For all you guys that say "I deleted mine and it works fine"......you should run a log with them, and without. Although not a huge difference, the wastegates close slightly faster....and build boost slightly faster because of that. Can you feel the difference? Probably not.... |
