Thermostat Temp Sensor
Hi,
My 2008 335i overheated yesterday and i assumed it was the water pump and did the water pump test and the pump made a buzzing noise with no coolant running. And yes i know i should have replaced ASAP as part of preventative maintenance but was busy with other stuff and was on may to do list. Anyway, when i went to pull pump out i notice temp sensor on the thermostat was broken. I don't know if it was already broken or i did it. The question is would the broken sensor set a check engine light and would have the sensor not connected stop the pump from running? Thanks for any help. Steve S |

Not sure about anything pertaining to the sensor but my water pump was failing and it still did the bleed process sounding healthy..not saying yours is out but it's something to keep in mind

Opened up pump, its brushless DC with submerged rotor.
Rotor has plastic coating that was pealing away and front wet ferrite bearing was a bit loose. Maybe high starting torque or electronic failure?? Looked clean inside with no leaks. Would be a good idea to increase coolant concentration to aid in lubrication. |

It's been reported on here in the past that folks bought aftermarket pumps and had issues. For this part I'd bite bullet and go Bmw brand for pump and tstat. Get the proper bolts as well.
