Does your I drive ever fail/take forever to initialize?

I've experienced some delayed startup times w/ an early-model e60. It's never been absurdly long though.

Happened tonight for the second time. Started car, i-drive screen remained black for an exceptionally long time. Finally the Idrive screen showed up but not the legal warning. The controller would not respond and the date was --/--/----

Drove the car and parked. Re-started car after about 30 minutes and the system worked fine.

Long-term ownership is starting to worry me even at 9000 miles.

I have noticed that mine will only do this once and a while. Last few times I started the car, its was on instantly.

Hmmmm.

This sucks... it just happened to me on a car with 4500 miles. No iDrive, no stereo, etc. Completely unresponsive to any input.

This has happened to me a few times in the nearly 2 years I've owned this car. I think the first time I got it was also at around 9000 miles. It's verrry rare, and it sometimes took me longer than 30 minutes to get rid of it, but it has always gone away by itself.

One time it took a long time to come up. Often it isn't responsive to all commands (like the steering wheel or touch-sensitive buttons) until the Bluetooth is done doing its thing.
