N54 engine swap this weekend, ECU and MHD questions
Howdy, I'm swapping my 207k mile N54 engine with a 70k mile N54 this weekend.
I'm currently debating whether I should use the ECU from the other engine, as it its a complete engine ready to install. My current engine/ECU are running MHD stage 2+, does anyone know if I will have to purchase the MHD software again for the new engine, if I use that ECU? Or would I just need to code my cars VIN to the new ECU? Thanks! |

Hey, this is the forum for the N52 NA engine not the N54. But I think you'll probably have to code your vin to the new ecu regardless. If you don't and it works fine, you'd have to purchase the software again.

Unless you want to swap your keys and CAS too - just stick to your original DME. It's not really a "wear item", and unless it's an MSD80 with blown mosfets, there's no real advantage or reason to change it.
