Hi, just got a new to me e93 (my first BMW). Drove it the first time yesterday and it overheated and kept overheating and i hooked up ista today to check it out. I am getting water pump speed deviation and
power reduced. Also the IBS says missing should I check if that's there? It seems like a pain to get to in convertible. Also on a side note my right adaptive light warning is going off after i replaced the headlamp assembly but carried over the old ballast and control unit. Do i need to reprogram for it to work? Also the control unit got wet from the previous headlamp so maybe its bad if that's what controls the adaptive lights? |

Fuses
Maybe I could check the fuses for water pump, all models have the fuse under the hood passenger side compartment?
Also the DSC lights came on also while driving with the orange brake light, so those dsc codes are current if anyone could chime in with what that can be. Yay BMW experience |

Hope you didn't get this problem dumped on you.
broken belt http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho....php?t=1231881 http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...3&postcount=23 https://www.oxwerkzperformance.com/ http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1477111 https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1305990 If you had a low battery a lot of those could be false indications . Clear Codes and see if they come back. Making sure you have a good battery putting out over 12.4 volts resting. codes that are in memory are not necessarily a consistent fault and a bad battery causes all kinds of phantom codes. Water Pump deviation probably needs you need a new one. Last edited by ctuna; 08-13-2020 at 02:11 PM.. |

https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e...mostat/vFKjkjB NOTHING related to the Coolant Pump is in the E-box under the Hood (EXCEPT the DME which controls it all ;-) "Missing" related to a component, doesn't mean the component has been physically removed, has fallen off, etc. ![]() Also, you should be aware that either INPA or ISTA can "Connect" directly to the DME Module and get MUCH MORE detailed information on any fault code still saved in that Module. So make sure you let us know how/if you can use ISTA or INPA with specific information of how to connect, which buttons to push, which screens to view/ save/ attach, etc. I will respond to the specifics raised by the codes you posted in later Reply, but please answer following questions: 1) I presume you first drove the vehicle yesterday? 2) How many minutes approximately elapsed between Startup & any Temp Warning Light? 3) Which Warning Lights appeared & what color(s)? 4) WHAT is the current Odometer Reading, and ~ how many miles ago did it overheat? Comparison with ISTA readout of mileage at which various faults occurred. 5) Was there any warranty related to your purchase/acquisition? 6) Do you have any reliable Prior Maintenance History or Documents? 7) If this is your first BMW & you first drove it yesterday, HOW do you have ISTA already? 8) Are YOU or whoever owns the computer generating the ISTA screen attached familiar with INPA which is on that computer as well? Reason I ask, is that I can explain some things with INPA screens, and suggest INPA tests, but I do NOT use ISTA. George |

The battery seems to be resting around 12.4, possibly settles below I'd have to check again, but I'm pretty sure it has dipped a lot less before I charged it up since it hasn't been driven in a while before me. Last edited by vitez180; 08-13-2020 at 10:09 PM.. |

2). So I drove it to get inspected about 30 miles one way and got the first orange coolant temp light about 20 miles in so about 25 minutes including startup maybe a few minutes more. It kept going on and off for a bit so thought it was malfunctioning, but later I figured the cooling fans came on full blast and must've regulated the temp a bit. But towards mile 25-30 it kept on longer than got a red light and I still drove a bit, I think it went to orange for a bit until I cruised to a traffic light in limp mode (red temp light) and turned it off for a bit, and finished the trip with orange temp light. Somewhere in between all that the DSC fail light came on (the triangle with the circle) and the orange brake light. CC-ID 24 and 35 i think specifically. The car hasn't had alignment done yet either so not sure how bad it is. 4). the current odemeter reading is 87464 miles, but I was told Ista shows km. But I can say for sure out of the faults shown in this picture the ones from 140600 is where my faults started showing up. So no warranty or documents with the car and I opened up ISTA for the first time so that's all I know. Last edited by vitez180; 08-14-2020 at 01:15 AM.. |

You can do a water pump speed test in INPA but you have all the tell tale signs the water pump is dying, don't keep driving it. Also change the thermostat.
It is located on the passsenger side but they eventually fail. INPA is good for analyzing the IBS |

The belt does not usually fail unless it gets oil on it.
As the tensioner wears out the belt will start to creep of the pulley . I haven't seen anybody come up with a good test for the spring tension test for the pulley. The observational test is belt creep on the tensioner pulley. Diagnostic Manuals Inpa/Ista D https://bimmerprofs.com/diagnostics-inpa-part-1/ https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...7x8H3pN8h1fMuF https://carmod.ru/files/icom/istad_en.pdf https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1681573 https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...-P-actually-do primary links https://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/at...9&d=1539905743 https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1681573 https://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/at...1&d=1590283589 I would never drive these and inch farther when a red temp light comes on . |

It was the water pump
The water pump connector was damaged from the collision, slightly pulled out. Replacement fixed it.
